Chapter 4: Cold Night on the Cold Mountain 1

Perhaps, I should install a camera outside my window.

The dark shadow outside the curtain provoked this thought.

Choosing to visit my window instead of ringing the doorbell like a normal visitor meant that the person didn't want anyone else to know about their visit.

Without any clues, it was all just blind guessing. Reluctantly, I left my warm bed and opened the curtains.

"..."

Just like the ellipsis in the quotation marks above, my heart was filled with emotions that I couldn't express. I didn't know how to face the person crouching on my window sill.

She knocked on the window, signaling for me to open it and let her in, but I had no intention of doing so.

Fan, the senior servant of the Wanlan Mountain household, stood on my window sill at eleven o'clock in the middle of the night, staring at me through the window glass.

It wasn't until she knocked on the window again that I let her in.

"I apologize for disturbing you in the late night."

Fan slightly bowed to me. Despite the movement, the towel she was wrapped in showed no sign of falling off.

That towel is really lacking in manners.

"You deliberately came back. Is there something important?"

"Yes, I just received new information on the way here. Bai Yaxin's organization will take action tomorrow. All the details are in this folder."

As Fan spoke, she pulled out a white plastic folder. This time, I used my dynamic ability to its fullest and finally saw how the folder appeared out of thin air.

Well, the answer was quite unbelievable, but Fan did indeed pull out a folder from her towel. When I took it from her, the folder still had Fan's body temperature, providing solid evidence.

Regardless of personal or professional matters, I now possessed an extraordinary item, which made me quite happy.

"Thank you for your trouble."

"It's my duty. Goodbye then."

Fan nodded politely and quickly left through the window. She even remembered to close the window on her way out. However, right before the window closed, Fan said one last thing to me.

"Mr. Chongmingde's homeland has a scholar named Lu Xun, who once said that wasting time is equivalent to plotting a disaster on oneself. Please be quick the next time you open the window. I am grateful."

Leaving these words behind, Fan got on her motorcycle and left gracefully.

In the midnight streets of Kyoto, a girl wearing a black helmet and a white towel flew past.

And here I was, a high school student who had long been prepared to sleep but was still awake. At this moment, my face felt hot, as if I had been slapped across the face.

The power of great words is truly remarkable.

So, what kind of information did Fan go through the trouble of coming back to deliver to me?

At this moment, there was no reason to say, "Ah, I'm so sleepy now, I'll look at it tomorrow." Even if reading this information meant that I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.

In the white plastic folder that Fan handed to me, there were a total of twelve pages of information. Among them, there was a truck rental agreement in the name of Wanlan Mountain Corporation, to be used from three o'clock tomorrow afternoon until noon three days later. There was also a warehouse rental agreement, with the supplier being Yamaguchi Construction Materials Corporation, at an address in Minami Ga Hara-cho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City.

This address... it's in the northeast direction, near Mount Daikambayama, right?

I found a map and confirmed the location. Just as I remembered, this place was in the northeast direction of Kyoto City, in a sparsely populated area called Mount Daikambayama.

So, the reason why Fan gave me this information must be because Bai Yaxin has motives beyond official affairs... Does this mean tomorrow will be an outing in the outskirts?

If it's an infiltration operation, it would be more convenient to go alone... but if I think that way, I won't involve anyone else in anything. That kind of thinking is no good.

Having one more person means having one more support, and we should not see others as burdens, but as assistance.

Well, it's time to try this new way of thinking, otherwise, I always vaguely feel like I can see the star of ancient destiny shining in the night sky (laughs).

Tomorrow morning, I'll talk to Uesugi Yui about this.
