Chapter 13: Meet Love Around the Corner

Life in the village can be quite easy and relaxing.

It's so easy that I'm about to think I'm a normal human girl.

I've been working on the farm every day, fertilize the farm, water it, feeding the cows, helping Grandma Clare at mealtime, occasionally going to the forest to gather fruits and vegetables or herbs, or helping out in the wheat fields with Aria and Barry.

Life in the countryside is monotonous, especially in a small, isolated village like this one, where more often than not people have nothing to do and gather in twos and threes to talk about boring trivia. I rarely get involved, unless Aria is pulling me along, when I choose to be alone or practice my lessons in a private place.

The people here are poor but have little pressure to live.

The people here are not worried about the performance that they have not finished this month, they don't have to worry about being eliminated if they go a little slow, and they don't need to talk about having a house and a car.

Everyone is the same, and no one is looking down on anyone.

I think that's life.

If the days could just go on like this ...... There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that.

Two days ago a merchant came to the village, an older man with a full beard and a loud voice. He and his wife both periodically run along the forest through the surrounding villages and towns, taking the herbs collected by the villagers at the right price and hauling them to the big towns far away to sell, doing business in a very primitive way.

If it were up to me, borrowing from the special nature of Woodward Forest, I would first find a master injury medicine maker as a partner to develop my own product and build it into a new brand.

Next, I will find a way to deal with the nobles or lords to get their investment to start the store laying and propaganda, and then invest a lot of time and money to develop a new technology that can replace the existing remedies on the market. This is the only way to have a chance to make it bigger and not be buried quickly after a short-lived appearance to be replaced.

It's certainly not difficult to do in practice, but the chances of winning along these lines are quite high.

The purpose of a businessman is to never let others earn what he can earn. There are so many opportunities clearly in front of us, only selling raw materials honestly is really not qualified.

But these are things that I just think about when I have nothing to do, and I'm not going to try to implement them.

I really don't want to enter that circle anymore, so it's good to just be a small village girl in peace and quiet.

............

Time passes quietly like this, and in the blink of an eye, it's harvest day.

I got up early before the east was even lightened and followed Aria and Barry, even Grandma, the four of us pulling a cart of tools toward the wheat fields.

"Good morning, Grandma Clare!"

Not far away, a family of villagers, who were pushing the same pulling cart out as we were, greeted Grandma loudly.

"Good morning, Mr. Doug, may Mother Goddess of Abundance bless us."

"Mother Goddess of Abundance bless, it's going to be a bumper crop this year, ha ha!"

Grandma Clare was laughing and exchanging pleasantries, and I subconsciously looked over to find that the child king, Ryan, was there.

At the same time Ryan saw me and cracked a big smile at me, revealing a mouthful of big yellow teeth.

I rolled my eyes at him.

Barry saw the look on my face and thought Ryan was bullying me again and immediately shouted.

"Uncle Doug, can you say something about Ryan, he's always bullying my sister Sylve!"

"What! Ryan, what are you doing bullying people?" Uncle Doug looked hot-tempered and immediately blew his beard and glared.

"I'm not bullying her!" Ryan shouted in defiance, straining his neck, while glaring fiercely at Barry.

Barry glared back, defiantly.

The fight between the teenagers was interesting.

"No bullying, why did little Barry sue you!" Doug kicked hard towards Ryan's butt, "I know you! I'm sure you're looking at a pretty little girl and you're teasing people. I'm sorry, go apologize to the girl."

"Why! I didn't bully her, Barry slandered me! I'm not going!"

Doug gasped and kicked Ryan again.

"You brat, telling you to go apologize is giving you a chance to talk to the little girl, look at you. If you like someone, go after them with your ability, don't give me shame all day long!"

"Okay, okay Doug, stop hitting Ryan, he's still young, he's still young." Grandma Clare said.

"He's almost nineteen and is not still little one, your Barry is much better than him ......"

Barry smiled smugly and glanced at me, not even holding back the grin on his face.

I smiled back at him, and then his face reddened and his eyes flashed a little.

Huh. That was funny.

It didn't take much time to get there, and we soon arrived at our destination.

One kilometer northeast of the village, the golden waves of wheat fields are rolling up and can't be seen at the end.

The sturdy orange stalks were lined with the heads of the spikes, and the ripe ears of wheat were full of grain.

The Clare family's land is the closest to the village entrance, occupying perhaps three or four acres of land.

"Sylve, can you harvest wheat?"

With tools in the field, Grandma Clare asked me with a smile.

"No."

I sniffed and shook my head.

"Here, Grandma will teach you." Grandma Clare bent down and picked up a farm scythe and demonstrated for me, "This tool is called a scythe, and you have to use it to hook the straw first. Then like this, a small stride firmly rooted, bend over, left hand grasp, right hand sweep ...... Cut down the wheat put aside, do not mess up. See if it's clear, you try it first."

Grandma picked up another short sickle and handed it to me.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do that.

"...... No, be careful, the scythe should be cut diagonally, the force should be fast, and the knife should be steady."

I grabbed a handful of wheat ears with my left hand, and swept my right hand hard ...... A little too hard, the blade narrowly grazed the calf.

"Be careful, my little one ...... You're in danger, you little fool. Here, grandma tells you to do it like this ......" Grandma came over to me and taught me hand in hand, "Stance, bend over, grab with your left hand, sweep with your right hand ...... That's right."

Aria and Barry had already cut a large piece by now, and were both sneering at me from the sidelines at this timeI got a little depressed and made a face at them.

Grandma’s education were very detailed, and soon I got the hang of it and cut the wheat faster and faster.

The sun came out, and the air gradually became a little sultry.

I raised myself up to wipe the sweat from my forehead when I suddenly saw a large scythe sitting not far from my feet.

"Grandma. That, what is that?"

"That's a large scythe, you ...... can't use it." Grandma was too old to cut much before she was a little out of breath.

"I want to, try. Grandma, take a break."

The large scythe was nearly two meters long and the blade was sharpened, and I took two steps past it to pick it up and station it on the ground. The scythe was a good deal taller than the only one meter six head I had, yet it felt very coordinated, and I tried wielding it twice, and it was very smooth.

This thing ...... It must be very scary if you use it to cut something else.

"My little one, put it down! This is too dangerous." Grandma snatched the scythe out of my hand, "Just take the little scythe and cut, and then play around with it again Grandma is going to get angry."

"Okay. Grandma, you, don't get mad."

Seeing that Grandma Clare seemed really a little angry, I dropped my foolishness and honestly took the scythe and continued harvesting.

"Grandma, give me the large scythe!" Barry, who was on the side, suddenly shouted out.

Grandma Clare picked up the large scythe and a net and handed it to Barry.

"I'll take a break, you're not allowed to give the large scythe to Sylve to play with!"

Barry responded, then mounted the netting on the blade and swung the large scythe across the wheat field in front of him, and a huge swath of wheat fell down.

"Sister Sylve, this large scythe must be used only by those with great strength, and it is very skillful, you must not be able to swing it in two swings. I'm the only one in this family who can use it, and my sister can't even."

Barry spoke with a slight tone of pride, craning his neck to look at me as if he were a child showing off his candy.

"Barry, that's awesome."

I satisfied his vanity and had another thing on my mind.

Do I need a weapon now.

If one day I were to face those strong church knights again, my small body would be at a great disadvantage if I were to use a sword like them, with shorter arms and legs than them.

If there was some kind of weapon that could both stab and slash, and was long enough to make up for my physical disadvantage ...... I looked again at the large scythe in Barry's hand.

Then I saw Barry steal a glance at me with his eyes, and the knife in his hand swung even harder ......

............

The four of us were not slow to work, and with the large scythe in place, the three or four acres of land were quickly harvested.

The first time I saw the bales of wheat poured into the field, I felt the pain in my brain when I thought that I would have to pull them back by the truckloads of manpower.

But it was getting a little dusky today, and it would be night soon, so any more work left would have to be done tomorrow.

"Sylve, you're so good, oh, you started cutting more than me this afternoon."

On the way back, Aria stretched out her back and looked at me with some amazement.

"I can't believe you're quite strong, I had a bet with Barry last night to see if you could last an hour, kudos to you!"

"Good teaching, Grandma."

Huh, there's more you wouldn't expect.

"Don't you even get tired, I feel so tired ...... Grandma, what are we going to eat when we get back?"

Aria looked at her grandmother with some expectation.

"Just know how to eat ......" Barry deflated slightly.

"Barry! Have you been looking at me badly lately? You argue with whatever I say! Are you trying to fight with me?"

Aria rolled up her sleeves and wanted to fight Barry three hundred rounds on the spot.

"Sister, you are about to get married, why can’t you look like a nice wife ...... I don't know why Alan likes you."

"It's none of your business!"

"Stop fightinh, the wheat is going to fall out."

"I want to eat meat when we get back!"

"Giggle."

I looked at the old lady and the two young guys in front of me, and the corners of my mouth curled up in a nice curve, thinking that this was my journey to the other world.

Life is nothing but these trivial things, plain but cozy.

Thinking this, I turned pale and fell into the ice cave the next moment I turned my head.

At the edge of the road, a familiar silver figure squatted there, stroking a child's head, smiling and saying something to him, and then stood up.

The white cloak lifted behind him, the style I am familiar.

He turned his head to look at me and narrowed his eyes.
