On the day of the date, the temperature was very low and the sun was covered by dark clouds, making the sky appear gray and gloomy. It seemed like it was going to be a cloudy day.
"Sorry, Jerry, for keeping you waiting," I stood at the entrance, ready with my shoes on, patiently waiting for Zhiye who said she needed to dress up a bit.
She hurriedly came out of the bedroom, with a look of apology on her face.
"It's only been a few minutes. It's okay," I replied calmly. As my gaze fell upon Zhiye, I noticed she was wearing a red kimono with white flower patterns, which looked attractive and charming, whether it was the first time I saw it or the second.
"How does it look? I'm wearing this..." Zhiye held the sleeves of her kimono with both hands, showing it off to me.
"It suits you very well..." I couldn't help but tell the truth. It really looked good on her. Zhiye's face lit up with a shy smile upon hearing my words.
"Shall we go then?"
"Okay..." I picked up the basket at the door and we left together.
The location for our date was not decided in advance, so initially, Zhiye and I wandered around a snack street. The street was lined with many small stalls offering barbecue, pancakes, and basically anything related to food.
Zhiye walked up to a stall selling caramel apples and was captivated by their appearance, as they were covered in brown sugar.
"Miss, buy one. They are really tasty," said the stall owner, an old lady with white hair.
Zhiye picked up one caramel apple like a child and then looked at me, as if seeking my approval.
"If you want to buy it, go ahead..."
"Can I?" Zhiye's eyes lit up upon hearing my permission.
"I'll pay for it..." I took out the money from my wallet and handed it to the old lady.
"Are you two a couple? Your girlfriend is really beautiful, and her clothes are also very pretty," the old lady commented.
"Thank you, ma'am," Zhiye smiled politely at the old lady.
"The girl is polite, and the young man is lucky," the old lady praised with a smile. Zhiye was overjoyed to hear the old lady's kind words, but I kept a straight face, trying not to be noticed.
"Here's your change. Welcome to come again," the old lady handed me the money, and I put it in my wallet without counting.
Leaving the stall, Zhiye stared at the caramel apple without diverting her gaze. It seemed like it was her first time trying it, so she found it fascinating.
First, she licked it and then took a small bite, leaving a mark on the caramel apple. Her expression seemed like she had eaten something sour.
"Is it sour?" I asked, puzzled.
"Not... it's sweet and sour. Jerry, why don't you try some too?" Zhiye held the bitten apple towards me. Was she asking me to take a bite where she had bitten?
But wouldn't that be an indirect kiss? I hesitated, and Zhiye noticed it. Her smile also faded a bit.
"Do you mind that I took a bite?" She looked so pitiful, and I suddenly softened my heart.
Without thinking too much, I took a bite, but only beside the mark she made.
"How does it taste?" Zhiye asked after seeing me swallow it.
"It's sweet and sour, the taste is pretty good," I commented, and Zhiye nodded in agreement, then she licked the spot where I had bitten. The gesture made my face turn red and my heart race, but I restrained impure thoughts and pretended not to notice, shifting my gaze elsewhere.
Later, Zhiye also tried takoyaki and pancakes. We enjoyed eating together. As we were about to finish the food street, a bearded middle-aged man approached me and patted my shoulder.
"Aren't you... the guy who confessed? Did it go well? Hmm... why does this girl not look like the one I saw before?" The man looked at Zhiye with confusion, and Zhiye looked puzzled.
I felt nervous and started sweating. It had been a week or two since the confession, and I didn't expect someone to recognize me.
"Sir, you have mistaken the person," I quickly grabbed Zhiye's hand, ready to flee the scene.
"Hey... how could I mistake someone? Hey..." the bearded man called out from behind. I completely ignored him and ran away with Zhiye. It was quite inconvenient for Zhiye, who was wearing wooden clogs, to run.So the speed did not increase, luckily the man did not catch up.
"Jerry, does that man know you?"
Zhichu asked me after we stopped.
"No, I don't know him," I quickly shook my head.
"But..." Zhichu also had some doubts, and I felt very uneasy.
"Where should we go next?" I stopped her from further speculation.
"Jerry, where should we go?"
"I think a quiet and less crowded place would be good," I said to avoid trouble knocking on our door.
"What about the park we visited before?"
The park with many couples? I felt that place was really not suitable for me to stay, but in order to leave here quickly, I had to agree.
