10. The Princess and the Knight

The two groups quickly began to fight each other, and although the hooligans were no match for the individual strength of the Caped Crusaders, their advantage in numbers meant that almost every caped person had to fight two of them, so there wasn't much difference in overall advantage between the two sides.

Larry stood with his arms crossed and watched this ridiculous scene unfold before his cold eyes - a drama that evolved from the greed of humanity into a bloodbath.

But neither side had considered the role they were playing here. Even if they were to win, they would ultimately still be losers.

"It's a funny development," Larry muttered, shaking his head.

At this moment, the leader of the Caped Crusaders approached, raising his weapon.

"Kid, it's best for you to behave yourself, otherwise don't blame me if you end up dead," his gaze overflowed with greed and madness. Larry believed that if he made a move to escape, the sword would chop off his leg.

But...

"I think your troubles go far beyond this," Larry looked towards the mouth of the alley again as a clattering sound approached. Soon, a group of warriors wearing full-body silver plate armor appeared.

Upon hearing Larry's words, the Caped Crusader lazily turned his head, but his pupils involuntarily contracted when he saw the newcomers.

The leader of the warriors had golden feathers adorning his helmet. Those were feathers from the LV.33 Crowned Bird - a symbol of glory. And the style of their equipment differed from that of heavy armor warriors; they wore plate armor and had feathers of glory on their helmets. They were the kingdom's personal guards, the Royal Knights!

The Royal Knights took pride in the feathers of glory on their heads because they were trophies taken from the monsters they had defeated. And this knight with the golden Crowned Bird feather was known throughout the kingdom.

Asrant, the princess's bodyguard knight, was a genius in his early twenties, ranked as an upper-level silver. He had even killed a Crowned Bird of the same rank.

Why would such a high-profile figure come here?

The Caped Man glanced around, then fixed his gaze on a somewhat dilapidated wall with several holes in it. With his agility, it would be easy for him to escape directly. Now was not the time to be greedy. For someone like him, whose greed led him to gamble with his life, being caught meant a dead end. Escaping first was the best strategy.

As for the others?

If he couldn't even save himself, why would he bother with them?

Larry silently watched the Caped Man's movements and used a dark paralysis skill when he was close to the wall.

The Caped Man suddenly lost all feeling in his right leg. The leg that was supposed to step forward lost its balance, and he stumbled into the wall.

"It's the princess, protect the princess!"

Asrant saw Cloie, wearing a hood, and rushed over with his knights.

Half of the twenty Bronze-ranked personal guards split off to surround and protect Larry and Cloie, while the other half charged out to attack the hooligans and Caped Crusaders.

Larry watched the scene before him with interest. He should have realized that the girl in front of him was a noble, but he never expected her to be a princess.

He couldn't help but think that the princess would not have had the lack of grace to divide up a whole roasted suckling pig with him.

"Unexpected, isn't it, Cloie, Your Highness?" Larry looked at Cloie and smiled.

Cloie didn't expect things to turn out like this either. Upon hearing Larry's words, she lowered her head and apologized, "I'm sorry for not properly telling you my identity. It seems I've caused trouble for Os."

Looking at Cloie, who was full of apology, Larry felt a bit embarrassed and waved his hand.

"I never expected to encounter something from a biography like this. It's really something else," Larry sarcastically commented.

Asrant grabbed the Caped Man who tried to escape and threw him in front of one of the knights. The knight took the Caped Man and made him kneel on the ground, clutching his head and not moving.

The melee quickly ended. The ten knights swiftly subdued the groups of thirty or so people on both sides. Apart from the casualties caused by both sides, the knights didn't kill anyone. For them, the virtue of a knight was also important, especially in front of the princess."Your Highness, we apologize for our delay," Asrant said solemnly, lowering his head under the helmet. His expression beneath the helmet was not much better.

Upon hearing Asrant's words, Chloe felt embarrassed instead. "Please don't say that, Asrant. It's all my fault for sneaking out because I really wanted to see what the capital city looks like."

Asrant trembled slightly and then said, "Although it is not my place to speak of my identity, Your Highness, running out alone in a time like this is not a wise choice."

"I'm sorry, Asrant, for worrying you. Let's go back now," Chloe said apologetically to Asrant, feeling disappointed.

Larry stood silently by their side. This was an issue between Chloe and the knight, and he didn't want to interfere like those foolish protagonists in Japanese time travel dramas, as it would not only be rude but also raise suspicions about his motives.

Asrant noticed the princess's expression and suddenly straightened up. "Take them back. This can be considered as a compensation for our mistake. We need to continue searching for the princess."

"Yes," the knights began to move, not exposing Asrant's lie.

Asrant approached Larry, lowering his sword with the blade down and lightly tapping his left chest with the hilt. "I hope you can protect the princess during this time. We will be waiting for the princess at 'The Drunken Nightingale' in the evening. I hope you can agree to this unreasonable request from me."

Chloe, who had been full of disappointment, was stunned by Asrant's action and then smiled happily. "Thank you, Asrant. Thank you, everyone."

Asrant and the soldiers continued their actions, even accelerating them. Presumably, they also agreed with Asrant's idea under their helmets and were happy to see the princess's gratitude.

In response to the knight's request, Larry nodded, "After all, my purpose is to explore the capital city and I also made an appointment with this 'Princess' here, even though I didn't know she was a princess before."

Asrant breathed a sigh of relief. He was afraid that Larry would refuse. After receiving the report that a possible princess had been found, he had rushed over without hesitation. Seeing Larry standing with the princess, he didn't think Larry was in cahoots with anyone.

"If there is a chance, I can take you on a tour of the capital city. But for now, I have other matters to attend to. Goodbye," Asrant politely said his farewell, then led the knights and the two groups of people out of the alley. The once crowded alley suddenly became empty.

"Let's go, Chloe. There are still some places I haven't visited yet," Larry called out to Chloe and walked towards the entrance of the alley.

Chloe snapped out of her thoughts and quickly caught up. "Is it okay for me to go with you like this?"

Larry shook his head and said, "Don't worry. As long as it's not another war initiated by the gods, I should be able to protect you."

Upon hearing Larry's words, Chloe couldn't help but burst into laughter, thinking he was bragging.

Seeing Chloe's expression, Larry knew she didn't believe him but didn't pursue it.

After the two finished strolling along a street filled with various snacks and desserts, Larry escorted Chloe to "The Drunken Nightingale" as planned.

Asrant, who saw the two arriving as expected, immediately felt relieved. Although they had sent people to secretly follow them, he didn't want the princess to refuse to go back or something unexpected to happen.

"Thank you, Os," Chloe bid farewell to Larry with a smiling face, then amidst the astonished exclamations of the surrounding crowd, she took off her hood and boarded the royal carriage."Goodbye, Princess," Larry nodded, bidding farewell, and then headed towards the Sheffield family mansion.

Nothing interesting happened along the way. After returning to the mansion, Larry freshened up and went back to Charlotte's room, embracing her as she peacefully slept.
