5. The Uncle and the Mysterious Visitor (Part 1)

I am indeed a genius.

Actually, I rarely say such arrogant words. I have lived for so many years and I have hardly realized any extraordinary talents in me. Apart from having full confidence in the weapons I create, I don't have much self-esteem in my appearance and personality.

But just now, I felt that I am talented.

When I was making a house for the little fur-ball, I made a mistake in the size and specifications for the first time, causing the fur-ball to not be able to move in smoothly. I put the failed product aside, and it was bought by a villager.

So I made another dog house and put it aside, and it was once again bought.

So I made many, many pet houses, and they were all sold out.

Holding four silver coins, I finally realized that I have the talent to be a carpenter.

If I open a woodworking shop besides the weapon shop, and then open a grocery store in the future, one day I will become the village head. If I become the village head, one day I will meet with the hero, because even if the hero doesn't come to buy weapons, he will definitely visit the village head.

Although I am 26 years old, my dream is still far away.

Anyway, the unexpected wealth is pleasing to the soul.

I made a more extravagant dinner tonight and added some special ingredients for the fur-ball's food.

Ilan ate very happily, and the little fur-ball also showed an expression of enjoyment.

Seeing this scene, I was relieved a lot.

I can't say I'm not confident in my cooking level, but after all, some ingredients are the first time to cook.

The warm yellow lights were also on in the villagers' houses in the distance, and they must have gathered together.

Suddenly, an uncomfortable feeling surged up.

"Come in, you don't have to stand at the door."

I whispered, and the voice was so low that even Ilan at the same table didn't hear it.

The shop door opened silently.

A dark cloak stood at the door, not uttering a word.

"Are you hungry? There's still leftover food."

Although I said it casually, I felt tense.

I am a weapon-selling uncle who deals with weapons. I can tell at a glance what kind of weapon a person is suitable for and what their physical abilities are. This is why I can help them choose the most suitable weapon when they don't know where to start.

Because of this, I can clearly see whether a person is strong or not."

The visitor cannot be said to be as powerful as the Demon King, but eavesdropping magic or hiding breath is not a person who should exist in this novice village.

I could clearly feel that this person was staring at Ilan.

"Does my partner and guest have any grudges?"

The other party took off their hat.

With purple short hair, long ears, and a slightly neutral face, there was no expression.

"How could it be? It's just a bit surprising to meet a demon race here."

From the sound of the voice, it was a boy. Although the voice was immature, it still carried a sense of oppression.

Because they were the same kind, they could easily see through the other's identity.

"So, are you here to buy weapons?"

Even though I knew it couldn't be that simple, I still tried to probe.

"I am not a guest, I am Baro, a warrior of the forest race."

I asked Ilan if she had heard of this name, but she shook her head with a spoon in her mouth.

"I want to buy a bow, but the bows here are of too low level."

I couldn't detect any lies from his words.

"Then please find another expert."

I said simply.

Even if I had a bow, I wouldn't sell it to the demon race. Otherwise, it would be a betrayal to humans. Although I was prepared to take the corresponding responsibility when I took Ilan in, I didn't need to take risks for irrelevant matters.

"It's impossible. I've been discovered. Now the whole human-ruled area is looking for me. It's just that the news is slow here. Maybe tomorrow, I'll be caught and have my head chopped off."

I took a sip of fish soup.

"What do you need a bow for?"

"To kill."

What a straightforward answer. I waved to Ilan, who was concentrating on her meal.

"Ilan, go add some hay for the fur-ball."

When Ilan passed Baro, they looked at each other for a moment. Ilan had a curious look, and Baro had a solemn one.

"That girl is a ghost, right?"After watching Ilan's figure completely disappear, Baro asked me.

I nodded.

"Why do you want to adopt her?"

"Because the child said she wanted to stay here, that's it."

She cried and hugged me, asking if I could take her in.

Baro stared at my eyes suspiciously.

"You can make the bow I want, can't you?"

"Yes. As long as I have the material from the inside of your cloak, I can make a top-quality bow."

His gaze suddenly became sharp, and he vanished from the spot in an instant.

It might have taken less than a second.

I raised my hand and grabbed his wrist that appeared out of thin air, easily throwing him back to the place where he had stood. The dagger he planned to threaten me with also ended up in my hand.

Though he barely managed to keep his standing posture, he looked incredulous.

Did he not know how slow he was, or did he blindly make a move without knowing the other party's strength?

Either way, it was a foolish idea.

But such foolish ideas precisely reveal inner anxiety.

"Why do you want to kill someone?"

I picked up the bowl and took another sip of the soup, which seemed a bit bland. I'll have to add half a spoonful of salt next time.

He seemed to still be struggling, but he clearly recognized the gap between our strengths and obediently stayed put.

Well done.

If he had attacked me again while I was drinking the soup, I might have broken his wrist to bring him to his senses.

I'm getting on in years, so I don't like pointless actions.

"The forest I lived in was burnt down by humans."

I nodded.

"Not only our kind, but also the creatures that originally lived here were all killed."

It didn't sound like a lie. To exterminate the demons, humans really spared no effort.

"The forest is our race's reliance. Once the forest is gone, our proud power will vanish as well."

Despite the bad news, he didn't show any pain.

What a strong person.

I started to laugh.

"So you plan to rely on weapons? Let me tell you in advance, no matter how powerful the weapon is, the one who uses it is ultimately yourself. What I can make is only a superior bow, but you are the one who aims, draws the string, and shoots out the hatred."

He bit his lower lip.

"But if I use the power of life, I should have one chance. Just once, I have someone I must kill."

"The mastermind behind the arson?"

"That's right. The captain of the Sixth Expeditionary Army. I've found out that everything was planned by this man."

"I see."

His expression showed a hint of panic for the first time.

"You're very strong, maybe even stronger than the strongest warrior in our forest. I can't beat you. If you won't do it, I'll leave now. Of course, I will never reveal the ghost girl's matter - we demons don't harm our own kind."

I stared into his eyes.

He didn't avoid my gaze at all.

"Fine. One bow it is."
