Shrinking on the ground for a good while, but the surrounding Zombies still did not attack him. Although Tang Cheng didn't understand what was going on, he still ran forward in fear.
The previously closed gate of the director's building was now wide open, as if someone had opened it from the inside. He rushed in anxiously, running up the stairs.
But just on the second floor, a rotting-faced Zombie suddenly appeared around the corner.
"Ah!"
Tang Cheng was immediately frightened and collapsed to the ground, but the Zombie had no reaction. It continued to drag its shaking limbs and walked directly past Tang Cheng.
"That... that's the headteacher of Class 5, right?"
Tang Cheng sat on the ground with his soul not yet settled, recognizing the Zombie as none other than Lin Ligang, the headteacher of Class 5. However, just like those downstairs, he did not attack him at all!
"Strange, can't they see me?"
Unable to understand what was happening?
Sitting on the ground, he carefully looked at his body. His clothes were stained with blood, but the bite wounds on his arms and body from the Zombies had healed quite a bit.
"Huh? The wound is healing?"
Although it still hurt, it was clear that the bite wounds on his body were healing, as if regenerating!
"Why am I not dead?"
"How long have I been unconscious?"
Standing up from the ground, Tang Cheng looked at the bloody corridor in front of him. The lights in the hallway and offices were flickering, indicating that the building's electricity had not been cut off.
He walked forward cautiously.
Many Zombies transformed from teaching staff were wandering in the corridors and rooms. Some were bumping into walls, and others were walking around numbly...
But they all had one thing in common - they had no interest in him at all. As he passed by them, their eyes never fell on him.
This made Tang Cheng increasingly bold. He walked straight past the group of Zombies and finally came to the inner restroom unscathed.
He turned on the faucet and washed his face thoroughly.
But when he looked up, he saw a Zombie with a rotting left face suddenly appear in the mirror.
"Ah, Zombie!"
Nearly scared to death.
But upon closer inspection, he realized that the Zombie in the mirror was none other than himself!
"My face! My face!"
His left face was already rotting, just like those infected Zombies, looking very terrifying.
"Did... did I turn into a Zombie?"
Just looking at that face, he was a scary Zombie at the moment.
"No wonder they didn't attack me, so I became one of them!"
"Zombie, huh..."
Sorrowfully mocking his Zombie-self in the mirror, Tang Cheng finally understood why those Zombies did not attack him just now.
"No!"
"If I've turned into a Zombie, why do I still have human consciousness?"
Based on what he had seen in the campus before, if someone was bitten by a Zombie, wouldn't they turn into a Zombie too?
But he felt very much alive now. Could it be that his body had produced antibodies to the virus?
Or was it that the Zombie virus had not completely infected him? In the end, would he still inevitably die and become a man-eating Zombie?
A great deal of confusion crowded into his heart.
He washed his rotting left face with water, feeling a stinging sensation, as if the flesh inside had not yet died completely. But he didn't know if it would heal.
" It's all Chu Ruoyun's fault! It's all her doing!"
Tang Cheng thought of Chu Ruoyun. It was her who had locked the door and caused him to end up in this miserable state!
Most importantly, his face was ruined! Even if he didn't die, how could he face people in the future?
"Chu Ruoyun! You better not let me find you!"
In anger, he left the restroom and began searching every room of the building. On one hand, he was looking for survivors, and on the other hand, perhaps Miss Chu Ruoyun was still here. The elevator in the corridor can still be used. After pressing the button and waiting for it to open, a few zombies were found inside, banging their heads against the elevator walls. Among them was a man in black, who was Chu Ruoyun's bodyguard. He walked out of the elevator with a limp and a stagger.
"This is Chu Ruoyun's bodyguard!"
"Was he bitten too?"
Tang Cheng quickly recognized the man, realizing that Chu Ruoyun must have been attacked by zombies when she left. At this point, the bodyguard, like the other zombies, did not pounce and bite him but slowly and numbly walked towards the depths of the corridor.
Even though he was among a group of hungry zombies, there was no danger of being attacked - a silver lining in an unfortunate situation.
"Let's not take the elevator, in case there's a sudden power outage..."
On second thought, Tang Cheng decided not to risk taking the elevator in case of a power outage that could trap him inside for life. He began to climb the stairs to the third floor, continuing his search for survivors.
"Hey, is anyone alive?"
"Is anyone there?"
"..."
Aside from the flickering corridor lights and the creaking moans of the zombies, there was no response from any living person.
Not afraid of being attacked by zombies, Tang Cheng shouted loudly inside the building. The wandering zombies had a slight reaction to his voice but still showed no signs of attacking him.
As he continued climbing the stairs, he found that there were 13 floors in the building, and not a single living person was found, only zombies.
Upon reaching the rooftop helipad, there were still no survivors in sight. The helicopter was long gone, and it was evident that Chu Ruoyun had escaped the school by helicopter.
Standing on the high rooftop, Tang Cheng looked down at the ruins of the city's F District. The streets were filled with zombies and wreckage, and the once bustling city of six million people seemed entirely dead.
"No way, am I the only one left?"
Despair filled his heart; had everyone in F City died? He hadn't expected that the apocalyptic scenes he'd seen in movies would become a reality.
"Forget it, don't think too much! Let's find something to eat first."
Feeling hungry, Tang Cheng began to head towards the door leading downstairs.
Just then, the sound of helicopters suddenly filled the sky. Two or three helicopters swiftly passed overhead, carrying several special forces members armed with M4A1 rifles.
It seemed like they were rescuers!
"Hey, I'm here!"
"Help me!"
Tang Cheng hastily picked up a piece of white cloth and waved it, shouting at the helicopters.
"Survivor spotted below, approaching now!"
Hearing the cry for help, one of the helicopters immediately flew towards Tang Cheng's location and hovered in midair.
However, the special forces members on the helicopter immediately aimed their rifles at Tang Cheng's head.
"No, he's infected! Abort the rescue!"
Upon noticing Tang Cheng's zombie-infected left face, the helicopter quickly ascended, preparing to leave.
"Hey, save me! Why are you leaving?" Tang Cheng shouted in desperation.
"I'm sorry, but you've been infected. You'll soon become a zombie, and we can't save you," a female special forces member regretfully told Tang Cheng.
"But I'm not dead yet! Maybe I haven't been infected..." Tang Cheng continued to shout, but the helicopter kept rising rapidly.
"I'm sorry, but you really are infected!"
The female special forces member looked at Tang Cheng apologetically, "Do you want me to shoot you? After all, you'll eventually become one of those flesh-eating zombies!"
As she spoke, the red laser from her rifle had already targeted Tang Cheng's head, ready to fire.
