Chapter One: Mu Zhou
update icon Updated at 2023/6/19 17:41:16

In a vast sea of trees, a young man stood.

At about seventeen or eighteen years old, he had delicate long eyebrows, bright star-like eyes, a prominent nose bridge, and soft facial lines that perfectly pieced together his features. His skin was fair and seemed to shimmer with a fluorescent glow, and his slightly purple semi-long black hair draped softly over his shoulders.

If one could ignore the slightly oversized, worn-out black cloak he wore, any person with a normal sense of aesthetics would be bound to exclaim, "Wow! What a handsome guy!"

Beside him, there was a rusty and battered metal broadsword about three fingers wide, as tall as himself.

Mu Zhou rubbed his chin with one hand, not remembering how long he had been standing there.

His mind was still in a mess; he knew who he was but couldn't figure out why he had suddenly appeared in this place.

He had gone to sleep on a soft bed, but when he woke up, he found himself covered in lush grass that reached over his knees.

Moreover, a jumble of chaotic memories emerged in his head... Although Mu Zhou had basically confirmed that he had experienced a legendary transmigration, the memories that appeared in his mind were not of an unfamiliar person's life, but...

"Cooking methods of silk carp?"

"Holographic projection PS technique summary?"

"Twisting Dragon Strength sixth-stage cultivation guide?"

"How to urinate against the wind and reach six feet away...?"

Mu Zhou shook his head hard, "What are all these?"

He calmed himself down slightly.

Turning his body, he looked at the sword stuck in the mud beside him.

He held the sword hilt with both hands and pulled it out with all his strength... Since the sword was somewhat too big for him, and seemingly a metal product, he thought it would be extremely heavy. Therefore, he exerted all his strength.

【Splash】The sword broke out of the soil, nearly causing him to fall backward.

He held the sword horizontally in front of him, examining it carefully. At first glance, apart from the rust and damage, there was nothing unusual about it. It had a simple design with no fancy decorations.

"But..."

Mu Zhou carefully let go of one hand holding the hilt, and held the over one-and-a-half-meter-wide blade single-handedly, then swung it two times with a wide range.

【Whoo~~~Whoo~~~】

A sound similar to a stick striking the air was produced.

"Surprisingly light... huh?"

He casually let his arm hang down, dragging the sword on the ground.

Looking up at the three dazzling suns shining through the gaps of leaves and branches, Mu Zhou sighed helplessly, considering it as evidence of his transmigration.

The trees in this dense forest were incredibly robust, resembling the work of a meticulous craftsman using a mold. Not only were the tree trunks straight, but even the positions of the branches and twigs seemed carefully measured. The only difference was the deformation of the towering canopy caused by the squeezing of branches and leaves.

This made Mu Zhou give up on his idea of discerning direction.

Mu Zhou walked to a tree trunk and rubbed its bark with his hand, finding it hard and smooth, not like ordinary tree bark which has a slightly soft surface. The surface was as if it were coated with a layer of metal.

He had never seen or heard of this kind of tree before, nor was it in his "memory" in any way.

There was not a single sound around, really not a single sound. There was no howl of beasts, no slithering or crawling of snakes and insects, and even no wind at all. If Mu Zhou didn't move, it would seem as if he was in a freeze-frame, extremely eerie.

But oddly enough, even though the memories in his mind were still jumping around, and even though he was facing this incredibly strange situation, Mu Zhou felt no panic. This calmness surprised even himself.

He could even feel that his heartbeat was still steady and regular. It was as if he was an old monster that had lived for countless years, having seen too many weird and wonderful things to be shocked.

He sat down with his back against a tree and slowly moved his body.

"My body doesn't feel uncomfortable, but..."

Mu Zhou opened his hand and examined it carefully, then touched his face.

"It's not an illusion... I've actually gotten smaller, or perhaps, younger?"Before appearing here, Mu Zhou was a 28-29-year-old freelancer who was almost a middle-aged uncle, with a decent family background, not too rich, but living a worry-free life. In his family, besides him, there were two children; his elder brother and younger sister were quite successful, and as the youngest, he was quite spoiled. However, he did not develop any bad habits or character due to these innate conditions. On the contrary, his personality was more inclined to be gentle, the type who likes to take things as they come.

Upon careful consideration, there were not any strong and deep feelings between him and his family and friends. It's not that he was incompatible with them or ruthless, but his temperament was just somewhat indifferent, but definitely not cold-blooded.

Inexplicably coming to this place, he felt a little confused and sad. However, he did not have those intense ties to support himself or the idea of going back at all costs even if it meant risking his life. He had never encountered any significant setbacks in life; he had lived a steady life for over twenty years. He had no great achievements, but he was independent, bought a house outside, and lived a comfortable life.

He was somewhat of a homebody, liking animation, novels, and various games which he felt had helped him calm down in the face of the current situation.

"So, how did I encounter a crossing? Not to mention this bizarre body change, the cloak on the body, and the beginner's sword-like weapon that came with it. Where did all this come from?"

"I had no complaints about my previous life and did not have any desire to go on adventures, nor have I encountered the big truck that is said to be the portal to another world in the legends..."

"And there's also..."

【Gurgle~~~~~~】

In this quiet and creepy forest, even the smallest sounds became clear to the ear.

Mu Zhou touched his stomach and looked at the monotonous surroundings.

"This situation is not exactly friendly..."
