Chapter 14: High Dragon
update icon Updated at 2023/6/22 2:10:12

Feeling extremely stifled in his heart, Viscount Harrison drained the dark purple wine in his left hand's glass.

Since his father's death, he probably hadn't had a drink in seven years. For the sake of his official duties, he never dared to get close to alcohol, as this could impair his judgment.

But today, he was feeling so depressed that if he didn't numb himself a bit, his heart might not be able to take it.

He could see the contempt in the eyes of the knight in front of him!

But he didn't care about the gaze of a dead man.

What did this dead man know? His hopeful future was ruined by him. If he had been more competent in protecting, or even been willing to accept the help of his own guards, he wouldn't have fallen into the state where he needed alcohol to numb himself.

As long as the next governor of Kofdale City conscientiously implemented the laws he had drawn up now, it would probably only take a few more years to become the kingdom's richest city.

But by then, it would be him who would gain the honor, having nothing to do with himself, who was judged to be an incompetent and declining noble.

Thinking of this, he reached for the wine bottle on his left and poured himself some more wine.

Angus was utterly disappointed with the governor in front of him, a subordinate of the Duke. This fat pig was useless, only capable of giving nervous orders when facing problems, and drowning his sorrows in wine when things got worse.

He had already had two drinks since Angus's arrival, and now he wanted to drink again.

"Stop wallowing in self-pity! As a subordinate of Duke Lapimentes, this is too disgraceful. You're simply shaming the Duke by behaving this way."

He heavily swept the wine bottle off the table with his hand, the glass bottle shattered into fragments on the ground, and the fine wine inside turned into garbage.

"You bastard! Guards! Guards!"

The room's door was pushed open, and two guard soldiers saluted Harrison and Angus.

Viscount Harrison angrily pointed at Angus's nose.

"Get this scum out of the city hall!"

The two guards obviously didn't understand the situation and looked at each other hesitantly, not daring to make a move first.

"Guards! This is an order!"

"Yes, sir!"

Although the two soldiers didn't understand what was going on, the orders of the governor came with top priority in this city, second only to the king and the duke's orders. Since Lord Angus did not move, they had no choice but to use force to remove him.

"My illusions about you were a mistake. I will find Miss Angelina myself."

Angus snorted coldly and turned to collide with the soldiers trying to restrain him from behind.

Angus's strength far exceeded that of the two ordinary soldiers, who were easily knocked down.

Angus cast a contemptuous glance at Viscount Harrison, who looked somewhat frightened, and strode towards the open exit, leaving the room.

The two soldiers saw Viscount Harrison's face becoming more and more unpleasant, quickly climbed up from the ground, and left the room, closing the door.

The empty wine glass in his hand was smashed heavily on the ground, shattering it.

Sitting on the chair, Viscount Harrison panted for a while before calming down slightly.

He got up and walked to the nearby wine cabinet, taking out another bottle of precious wine.

"If I were you, I wouldn't keep drinking. Alcohol may temporarily make you feel better, but once the effects wear off, you'll only become more irritable and frustrated."

An emotionless voice entered his ears, and Viscount Harrison felt as if half of his intoxication disappeared instantly.

His own room was situated deep within the city hall. Who could have bypassed so many guards and silently entered here?

Could it be the real perpetrator who took away Miss Angelina? It seemed that only such a character could accomplish such a feat!

Such a person coming to him couldn't possibly be a good thing.

He stared nervously all around but found no trace of anyone.

"Guar..."

A hand in a black glove covered Viscount Harrison's mouth. The material of the glove did not feel like silk or cloth.

"If I were you, I wouldn't call for help so recklessly. If you understand, nod your head."The unadorned threat made the somewhat cowardly Viscount Harrison unable to muster any resistance at all.

He didn't doubt for a moment that if he didn't do as the other party said, he would be killed by them.

So he quickly nodded.

"It seems that something has happened here? But I also have some questions for you, can you spare some time to chat with me?"

The hand slowly loosened with the words.

Although he didn't understand what was going on, it seemed that the other party wanted to extract information from him, which was not a bad thing.

Viscount Harrison pointed to another corner of the room, where there was a row of bookshelves holding some very old books. The master loved them very much, so the bookshelves were kept very clean.

There was a small space in front of the bookshelves with two sofas placed on a red carpet, facing each other and a wooden coffee table in between.

"Since you want to chat with me, why don't we sit down and talk?"

"Fine, but I like to speak bluntly. If I find you doing any tricks, I will not hesitate to kill you immediately. But if you talk to me properly, I won't do anything excessive."

"No, of course not, how dare I?"

"..."

Viscount Harrison pinched his chin and walked to the sofa first, leaning against the bookshelf as he sat down.

The mysterious person followed Viscount Harrison and sat down without any politeness in front of him.

It was then that Viscount Harrison saw what the mysterious person looked like.

He was dressed in black from head to toe,

With a steel shoulder pad on his left shoulder and a red dragon pattern on the outside of his right arm.

Under the raised hood was a strange silver mask, the reflection of which seemed to be capable of capturing one's soul.

Seeing the stranger's attire, Viscount Harrison felt that he seemed somewhat familiar.

Suddenly, Viscount Harrison thought of a report not long ago...

The so-called mysterious person was, of course, Han Mu, who had come to inquire about information.

He had arrived at the City Hall earlier, but he had been searching for the suspected bureaucrats in other areas of the City Hall.

He had only just explored this area a short time ago.

Seeing that Viscount Harrison didn't look impressive, but since he could issue orders, he must be someone with some power, and he should know more about the information he wanted.

Viscount Harrison's somewhat strange expression caught Han Mu's eye.

"How come, do you know me?"

"I can't say I don't know you, but I don't seem to know you either."

Viscount Harrison's words had a bit of a tongue twister feel to them.

"Oh? So, it seems you probably know who I am, tell me and let me hear it for the time being."

"I presume you are the mysterious person who helped the 'Silver Hammer' defeat the adventurers on the outskirts of the Gwendolyn Mountains."

"Correct."

His clothes were still the same as when he had fought with the adventurers, and he hadn't changed them, so Han Mu wasn't surprised to be recognized. Moreover, Han Mu had done this intentionally, showing his powerful strength to make the other party submissive, which would be more advantageous for him in communication.

He didn't kill any humans at that time, which also told the other party that he was not a cruel person.

It was just a matter of whether the other party could understand his subtle hint.

Obviously, Han Mu was not unlucky. Viscount Harrison was indeed a smart man, and he understood this point.

"Are you a member of the High Dragon Clan?"

High Dragon Clan? A branch of the dragon race?

Han Mu was very interested in why the other party would think so, and since he was indeed a member of the dragon race in a way, he didn't deny it.

"How did you know?"

"I never thought ... the legends of the Ice Dragons in the Gwendolyn Mountains are true!! There are really ancient Ice Dragons dwelling there."

Viscount Harrison gasped.

"Actually, it's very simple to judge. The dragon-like majesty you brought with you when you appeared that day already betrayed your identity. Before I took office as the governor, I was a well-known scholar in the kingdom, and when I took office in Koffel, I carefully studied the surrounding geography, climate, and legends of the area. So, based on the report that day and the power you revealed, I made several guesses, but the High Dragon Clan was just one of the guesses. Now that I see you, I can probably confirm your true identity."As he spoke, his eyes unconsciously glanced at the flaming dragon emblem on the outer side of Han Mu's right arm.

"So that's how it is. Can you guess what I need you for?"

"I think I have a rough idea. First of all, I am grateful that you didn't vent the dragon's anger on Kofferdale. I deeply regret ordering the adventurers to attack the werewolf tribe. I didn't know that the werewolf tribe was under the protection of the dragon clan."

Viscount Harrison showed outstanding handling skills as a governor, which somewhat changed Han Mu's impression of him. Before, Han Mu had thought that he was just a useless, fat pig who could only complain about his subordinates.

It turned out that judging a person by their appearance was indeed wrong.

Han Mu nodded slightly.

This gesture fell into Harrison's eyes, and his heart was suddenly delighted, involuntarily trying to figure out the mentality of this advanced dragon envoy.

In his heart, he felt the intensity and angle of Han Mu's nod was so profound and unpredictable.

Was this a confirmation or a mockery of himself? He probably meant no harm, and it seemed that his immediate apology had a good effect.

Wait a minute! The other party is an advanced dragon who hasn't appeared openly in the kingdom for nearly thirty years. For such a powerful being, it's not enough to just apologize, but also to guarantee and apologize!

Perhaps the other party was silent and just nodded in order to remind himself of this.

What a kind-hearted advanced dragon!

The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed.

Fortunately, he was able to immediately understand the deep meaning of the other party's nod. If he missed this kindly reminder, he would be too foolish.

"Sir, I know that just apologizing is not enough. So I will order Kofferdale's Adventurer's Guild never to have any more missions related to werewolves, and ask the local Nastassia religious group to stop hunting werewolves. At the same time, I will return all the collected herbs as compensation for my sins. I know these things are not very significant to you, but I hope to express some of my repentance."

Harrison's words were a bit unexpected to Han Mu. He thought the apology would end there.

Instead, he promised not to harm werewolves in the future and even offered compensation in the form of materials to them. This was quite nice.

He never thought this person would give him such a great face.

Since the other party had given him face, he didn't want to embarrass them in return. Han Mu eased the frost on his face.

"Can you do it?"

"Of course, I am Viscount Obert Will Harrison, the governor of Kofferdale. These things are not too difficult for me to do. It's just that..."

Seeing this governor hesitating, it seemed that something was troubling him.

"What's wrong?"

"I am facing a troublesome issue right now. However, since you're here, I think there might be a chance for a turnaround. It would be great if you could help me."

Han Mu chuckled lightly. Sure enough, there was always an ulterior motive behind these actions. It should be the matter that had caused him to drown his sorrows in alcohol earlier.

If this matter wasn't too difficult to handle, Han Mu was willing to do it. After all, if he could improve the relationship between werewolves and humans, he would be more than happy to see it happen.

However, Han Mu's laughter sounded to Harrison's ears like Han Mu was mocking his foolishness.

It seemed as if the other party had seen through all his intentions.

However, he had no choice but to resort to this strategy. He hoped that the other party would not get angry over this matter.
