Chapter 2: Exploration
update icon Updated at 2023/6/30 10:10:12

The headache went away faster than expected. First of all, I should confirm my current situation.

The map in the upper left corner is gone, which means I can't determine my current location at all.

The best scenario is that there's a town or village nearby, and I can quickly confirm my position.

The worst scenario is that there are no humans in this world. Although the possibility is slim, it can't be ruled out.

I open the [Control Panel].

I click on [Character Attributes].

To my surprise, my level is Lv220. The level cap for characters in the game is only Lv200.

As I recall, during the final battle with the Guardian of Chaos, the [Originator (De départ)], when its HP was down to 1%, I seemed to have stabbed the Sword of Light, Hedrick Lus, into its heart.

Was it my final blow on the boss that made me jump 20 levels?

There's a significant difference between these 20 levels. My attribute columns have grown a lot.

I open the [Title Column] and find a new title: [Opener]. Out of curiosity, I equip this title, and something surprising happens.

All of my character's attributes are tripled!

My strength has already been specially strengthened, unlike ordinary characters.

With this boost, my power becomes terrifying. I feel like I might be able to defeat the [Originator (De départ)] single-handedly.

Apart from this, I obtain two passive skills: [Heart of God] and [All Attribute Resistance (God Level)].

I first read the description of the [Heart of God] skill. The explanation is simply four words.

"Blessed by grace."

After checking my own status, there appears to be no other changes, and my luck column remains at the usual [A] level.

I then open the [All Attribute Resistance (God Level)] skill.

As the name suggests, all of my resistances are raised to a very high level.

However, due to my hidden profession as a Holy Dragon Knight, all of my resistances are already abnormally high. So, there is no drastic change.

The Holy Dragon Knight profession is one of the many hidden professions in the game, requiring the character to have warrior lvl 20 (max level), paladin lvl 20 (max level), and dragon knight lvl 30 (max level) as prerequisites to undergo complex tasks before they can take the job.

Since I'm an otaku who relies on games for a living, I carefully chose this profession as my main profession to save resources and solo dungeons.

Because of the Holy Dragon Knight profession, I can freely switch between [Human Race] and [Dragon Race], offering me the convenience of undertaking both human and dragon quests.

After all, I need to make a living in the game. To earn money, I undertake various race quests. So, my reputation with the Dragon and Human races is at the [Adoration] level.

I won't mention the other race areas. Even with the demon race, my reputation is [Friendly]. However, due to this, my virtue value becomes -50. Resurrecting in the temple in the game costs an extra 50%.

To accept highly rewarding missions from the demon race, I ignore this small flaw.

Incidentally, the maximum value of virtue is a deviation of ±200. If you reach an astonishing -200 virtue, you can't use the temple and can only rely on guilds and shopping mall items to resurrect.

Next, I check the [Warehouse], which exists within the system.

Nothing seems to be missing. Materials, potions, and weapons are all there.

A few items dropped by the final boss, the [Originator (De départ)], seem to have been added. At the time, no one picked up these equipment, so the system automatically assigned them to the team leader.

I scroll down to check these items.

[Guardian of Chaos's Halberd Axe]【Bracers of Chaos】

【Necklace: Heir of Chaos】

These three items seemed to be a set, with the set attribute being the Chaos Guardian.

Han Mu frowned and put away the warehouse (virtual storage).

Gurgle~

What was that sound?!

Gurgle~

Looking down, Han Mu found that it was actually his own stomach growling?!

Could he really feel hunger in the game?! This was too weird, but then again he had just drunk water because of dizziness.

What was going on? If this was just a game, the feeling was too realistic. He had never encountered this before.

Although he had eaten in the game before, it was all virtual tasting and did not create feelings of hunger or fullness.

Feeling nostalgic about the sensation of hunger, Han Mu took out a piece of bread from the warehouse, which was the only edible-looking item in the warehouse.

The bread was a low-level HP recovery potion for beginners, which was commonly seen in many games.

Taking a bite, Han Mu was moved to tears by how awful it tasted. It felt like chewing on cardboard.

After finally swallowing the bread, Han Mu sighed and took a leather bag out of the warehouse. He filled it with water from the nearby stream just in case a water shortage happened.

This leather bag was called the Dragon Bag, capable of holding about half a swimming pool's worth of water.

After filling it with water, Han Mu finished his preparations to set out. However, with a furrowed brow, he wondered what to do next.

Water is the source of life; usually, in real life, villages or towns are built near water sources from ancient times until now. Water has nourished countless brilliant civilizations.

However, whether this law applies in this world was uncertain to Han Mu.

The worst-case scenario was that there was no human presence in this world at all, no matter how small the possibility, it couldn't be ruled out.

The water flowing downstream from the upper course was crystal clear, not looking like it came from a place with human habitation. However, there was a chance that the local people were very environmentally conscious.

After several minutes of mental struggle, Han Mu finally decided to explore downstream following the stream.

The most convenient method would be to summon his level 190 Ancient Crimson Dragon King mount through 【Contract Summon: Ignaty Wulu】, scouting for towns from the sky.

But just as he thought, there were still too many uncertainties in this world, and he shouldn't recklessly take such attention-grabbing action.

Perhaps as soon as he took to the sky, he would attract the monsters of this world to attack. The strength of the monsters in this world was unclear, so it was better to be cautious.

Even if he were to do so, it would only be when he was at his wits' end.

There were still plenty of unappetizing beginner's bread in the warehouse; if consumed carefully, there should be enough for a year's worth of food. There was no need to worry yet.

At level 220, Han Mu's energy was abundant. He walked day and night without resting.

Near noon on the second day, Han Mu sighed with relief.

Using the skill【Life Exploration】, Han Mu sensed the presence of many human-like life forms not far to the north. Analyzing the density and distribution of life, it was highly likely to be a human village or town.

At the same time, Han Mu found that the use of skills had not changed from the game.

Han Mu was relieved but still didn't dare to let his guard down.

【Breath Concealment】

Han Mu tried to use this skill, but found it unusable. He checked his MP and found it to be full.

Seemed to have a thought, Han Mu opened his character attributes and took off the 【Opener】title.

【Breath Concealment】

As the skill was activated, Han Mu's breath became faint and almost imperceptible.

As expected, it was a problem with the title. It was unclear how the title conflicted with the skill. Could it be because his breath was too strong and could not be concealed?

Or was it due to the limitations of the title? After all, such an overly BUG-like thing would generally have some weaknesses designed in the game.

【Super Physical Defense Enhancement】

【Super Magical Defense Enhancement】

【Trap Perception】

【Super Upgrade of All-Attribute Abilities】

...

After applying nearly thirty buff enhancements to himself, Han Mu felt slightly relieved and began to explore the 'town' ahead.

After walking cautiously for around an hour, Han Mu arrived at a place not far from this northern 'town' and hid to observe it.

It was a rugged village built upon a valley, with a very distinctive architectural style. Most of the houses were made of wooden frames covered with oilcloth or some unknown crude leather, leaving a gap for the door. The roofs were decorated with sharpened animal bones.

The two guards defending the entrance of the valley caught Han Mu's attention. Both of them should be werewolves, right?

Han Mu's doubts came from their appearance being different from those in the game.

Among the two werewolves, the one on the left was similar to those in the game, like a wolf standing up, wearing a leather armor protecting the heart, and able to hold on to a bone spear very well.

As for the other one, he had an obvious human appearance, also wearing a leather armor protecting the heart, and had a healthy wheat-colored skin, although his face was a bit rougher. On his head, there were a pair of vertically erect wolf ears. There were also wolf hairs around his wrists, looking like a bracelet, and a gray wolf tail sticking straight out behind his buttocks.

So basically, they were both werewolves, but one was more beast-like and the other was more human-like?

Perhaps the village is made up of these two types of werewolves.

Using the【Ability Appraisal】skill, Han Mu consumed some MP and confirmed the levels of the two guards. The beast-like guard was shown to be Lv27, while the human-like guard was Lv28.

Due to not being game friends, the ability value couldn't be confirmed.

So, their levels were far lower than Han Mu's? However, it was unknown if the strength of this world was the same as the previous one.

Perhaps in this world, a Lv20 character could possess the strength to annihilate a Lv100 character from the previous world.

However, Han Mu didn't want to miss this hard-to-find village, even if it was inhabited by werewolves. Who knew how long it would take to find another one if passed up?

Besides, judging from their levels alone, the werewolves didn't seem to be very strong. Although there was still a gap between them and the ideal village Han Mu was looking for, he was already quite satisfied.

Han Mu took out the legendary artifact【Disguise Mask】from his warehouse. This mask was a mediocre item that needed to be completed with a three-day mission to kill a world-class boss.

Although the rarity of the item was that of a legendary artifact, it had no additional attributes and only owned the【Mimic】active skill.

However,【Mimic】could be seen through by many other skills, so it didn't have any practical value.

But the mask itself had a certain degree of collectability, so since Han Mu crafted it, he didn't disassemble it and kept it in the warehouse. Now it might finally come in handy.

After putting on the mask, its appearance merged into Han Mu's skin.

A pair of wolf ears, a gray wolf tail, and a circle of wolf hair bracelets on the wrists grew out of his body, and his skin color changed to wheat-like.

Using a mirror from his warehouse to check his appearance, Han Mu now looked like a human-like werewolf. However, something seemed a bit strange.

After glancing at the werewolf guards and then back at himself, Han Mu realized the problem was with his equipment.

His advanced armor was made of high-quality materials like dragon essence iron, elf cloth, etc. The style differed too much from the werewolves'.

Leather armor and coarse cloth? He wondered if he had any of those in his warehouse.

After searching for a while, Han Mu finally found a set of leather armor and coarse clothes at the bottom of his warehouse!

The nostalgic newbie equipment had decent attributes, so he wore it until Lv50 before replacing it. No wonder he didn't want to disassemble it back then.

Since this set of equipment was still around, then... Han Mu searched for something else.

...

Got it! An iron axe was taken out of the backpack. This was the powerful weapon they had once wielded as a beginner.

[Blue Goblin Battleaxe]

Han Mu unequipped all the legendary grade items and put on these beginner gears, feeling as if he had returned to his newbie days, with that cautious and timid feeling.

By activating the skill [False Information], Han Mu altered his apparent level to make it look like he was level 35, in case the opponents had the ability to see through his abilities.

Now, he should look perfectly fine. If it wasn't enough, there was nothing he could do.

Before heading out, Han Mu took out a one-time-use legendary item, the Transfer Key, and kept it close to his chest. If something went wrong, he'd immediately perform long-distance teleportation.

As for language, because of his dragon knight profession, he had a passive skill [Dragon Language Speaker]. He should understand general beast language.

Should be able to, anyway...

Praying that the others would speak words he could understand, Han Mu came out of hiding and walked towards the guards.

The two guards noticed Han Mu approaching them, and upon seeing that he was a werewolf, they relaxed their expressions.

The humanoid guard asked, "Traveler, where do you come from?"

Great, Han Mu could roughly understand the meaning of the question. Even if there were some syllables he didn't understand, he could still figure out the meaning from the context.

Being cautious, Han Mu didn't get too close to them.

"I come from a faraway land," Han Mu replied.

"Traveler, what is your purpose?" the guard asked.

"I want to learn about the geography of the surrounding area to plan for my next journey. If you could let me in and treat me to a nice meal, that would be great. However, I'm afraid I don't have anything to pay for my meal. If there's any manual labor, I can help."

"We would be happy to host you, our distant friend. But do you have any human currency on you during your journey? Of course, if you don't have it, that's fine."

Humans!?

Han Mu obtained valuable information. It seemed that humans did exist in this world, and he could even use human currency to trade with the werewolves. The relationship between the two races seemed to be good.

However, Han Mu, being a newcomer, didn't possess any of the world's currency. Although his warehouse was full of gold coins and various gems, it wasn't wise to flaunt wealth. He couldn't be too extravagant until he knew what kind of people were in this village, to avoid causing trouble.

If the villagers were decent people and there was no risk involved, Han Mu wasn't a stingy person either.

"Sorry about that, friend," Han Mu apologized.

"That's too bad," the guard replied with a look of regret.

"Well, traveler, please wait a moment. I'll see if the Shaman is available to meet you."

"Thank you for your trouble."

The humanoid guard entered the village, and the other werewolf seemed to be a quiet individual. Han Mu wanted to chat with him, but the werewolf didn't seem interested in talking.

Since the other party didn't want to talk, Han Mu didn't insist. They stood there in silence.

After about half an hour, the guard came out.

"The Shaman is willing to see you. You can come in now."

The guard turned around and gestured for Han Mu to follow. Hesitating for a moment, Han Mu followed him.

Passing through the gate, there was a path guarded by werewolf soldiers. Han Mu noticed that their leader was a Level 39 werewolf warrior.

The werewolf warrior leader looked at Han Mu, the strange werewolf, with caution, but didn't say anything and let Han Mu pass.

Han Mu finally entered the village, which was full of energy and vitality.

To Han Mu's surprise, he saw a structure that resembled a breeding ground, keeping various small animals within.

The village wasn't large, and it didn't take long for Han Mu to reach the other end, where there was a stone wall. On the wall, there was a cave, with two werewolf guards stationed at the entrance. Both of them were above Level 30.As soon as Han Mu arrived at the entrance of the cave, he heard an old voice coming from inside.

"Come in, traveler."

Based on the [Life Exploration] skill, Han Mu discovered that there was only one person inside, so he went in.

The cave was not deep, and inside there was a chair covered with animal skins, on which an old half-human half-wolf creature was half-sitting half-lying. The creature's age seemed to be quite advanced, with many patches of wolf fur balding.

This seemed to be the Shaman of the village.

"Hello, Shaman."

"Hehe, come, let me take a look at you."

The shaman then stretched out a semi-bald claw (hand).

Seeing Han Mu not moving, the old wolf's eyes narrowed into a line.

"Come, bring your head closer, let me take a look."

Han Mu finally understood what the shaman wanted to do, which was to touch his head, and immediately leaned over.

The claw was placed on top of Han Mu's head, and the shaman closed his eyes.

After about two minutes, the shaman withdrew his claw.

"Child, what's your name? I feel that you must have come from a faraway place."

"My name is Mu Mu, Shaman. I come from a distant land."

"Poor child, I feel that you have experienced a lot. You have gained a lot, but also lost a lot. You give me the impression of a good child, if you are willing to stay, we are willing to take you in."

"Thank you for your kindness, Shaman. However, I still have some things that I must do."

"All right, I understand. Then stay a few days first, stay as long as you want. Wol! Let Wutatawusi take care of this guest from afar."

Upon hearing the call from the Shaman, a guard responded and entered.

"Traveler, please come with me."

Following the guard, Han Mu left the cave and arrived at a small house not far away.

"Is it Brother Wol?"

A girl's voice came from inside.

"Wutatawusi! Shaman has asked you to take care of this traveler."

"Really? That's great!"

A little girl emerged from the house, a human-like wolf creature with brown short hair and two gray wolf ears, delicate features, and seemingly only about twelve years old, very cute.

Her big tail swung back and forth.

"Are you the traveler?"

"Yes, my name is Mu Mu, a traveler from a faraway place."

"Great! Please tell me some interesting stories you've seen."

"Well..."

"As long as you're willing to tell stories, I'll treat you to some jerky tonight!"

Wol coughed once.

"Hehehe, sorry, I got too excited when I heard that you, Mu Mu, are a traveler. Let me introduce myself first, my name is Wutatawusi, but you can call me Xiaoming."

As she spoke, Xiaoming grabbed Han Mu's hands.

"Let's go inside first."

If one was a fan of cute young girls, they would probably be very happy about this situation. However, Han Mu didn't have any particular feelings about it.

Upon hearing the name Wutatawusi, Han Mu's first impression was that of a strong wolf man.

It turned out that the owner of the name was a little girl, and she would be taking care of him in the future. This made him a bit worried, as it might now be more difficult for him to gather information.
