1. The mundane daily life of Tentacle Monster
update icon Updated at 2023/7/12 19:07:48

Bored, so bored.

It's so damn boring.

Looking at the fish swimming back and forth in front of me, I couldn't help but sigh.

Let me introduce myself. I am Kraken, also known as the North Sea Monster. Unlike the legends about me attacking ships and eating sailors, I have no interest in such activities. In fact, human flesh is tasteless and unappetizing to me as a successful seafood farmer owning the world's largest fishing grounds. Why would I care about a measly human serving?

You may wonder why a monster like me would be interested in seafood farming. Let me explain.

To power my massive 60-meter head and eight tentacles, I need a lot of energy. Therefore, I need a lot of food. However, swimming aimlessly in the sea, the daily intake of food is actually very limited. Therefore, I chose to farm fish instead, which is more cost-effective.

Because I am a mythical creature, I don't excrete like other animals. However, I do have similar physiological phenomena. Every day, a certain amount of energy substance is discharged from my body. For me, this is just the residue of excess nutrients. However, for most fish, the refined material from a mythical creature like me is undoubtedly the most nutritious food. That's how I formed a symbiotic relationship with millions of fish living around me.

The fish living around me thrive with abundant nutrients. At the same time, under my intimidating presence, there are no predators within dozens of kilometers of the sea. Of course, in exchange, I also prey on fish every year.

So, that's how I solved my food problem.

But it's not without downsides.

Sitting in the fishing grounds every day without doing anything is really boring!

Can't something interesting happen?

"Help! It's Kraken! The North Sea Monster!"

North Sea Monster? Kraken? That sounds interesting! I want to go and see...wait, I'm Kraken, aren't I? What exactly is happening? Is someone impersonating me?

So, I opened my forty-meter giant eyes and looked towards the sea's surface.

It seemed like it had been a long time since I last opened my eyes. My forty-meter eyelids were covered in all sorts of seaweed and coral reefs, making it difficult to open my eyes.

Damn it! This damn eye mucus!

To remove the coral stuck to my eyelids, I had to pull out one of my tentacles.

Damn it, it's stuck tight!

I swung my tentacles vigorously, rubbing my eyelids with suction cups.

At this time, the human's cry came again from above the sea surface.

"Tsunami! It's a tsunami! The sea monster is angry and has caused a tsunami!"

What's going on? Yes, I am angry, but I've been sitting here all along! Where did the tsunami come from?

Thinking about it made me more curious, so I swung my tentacles even harder.

Phew, I've finally cleaned these damn seaweed and coral reefs.

When was the last time I opened my eyes?

Was it a hundred years ago or two hundred years ago? I can't remember...Oh, it seems like I was seen by a guy named Alfred? Oh, at that time, I accidentally overturned many Viking ships, I'm so sorry...By the way, that Alfred guy seems to have become the king of England later? He was also called a great emperor by some people...

Alright, I don't want to think about these things anymore. Let's see what's going on.

I struggled to open my eyes, revealing my twenty-meter radius golden eyes...ugh, what the hell is this.

Huh, why is the sea still so blue? What a disappointment.

I shifted my golden eyes, staring at this familiar yet unfamiliar underwater world.

The fish around me seemed startled by the golden light radiating from my pupils and scattered all around. So I released my ancient godly consciousness and calmed down the frightened fish. When the fish had settled down, I once again turned my gaze to the sea surface.

"It's the flame of a sea worm! Oh my God! The North Sea monster is going to destroy the world!"

What the hell? It's the divine light in my eyes, okay? You humans are always making a fuss, but don't have the courage of the fish I raised.

Wait a minute. What about the imposter who tried to impersonate me?

I widened my eyes and searched the sea above carefully.

Finally, I found a giant octopus less than twenty meters long in a corner.

This is the North Sea monster they were talking about?

Are you kidding me? Although I am also an octopod, I am a mythical creature! I am the ancestor of all octopus and squid in the North Sea!

Just this little octopus less than a dozen meters long, and you call it the North Sea monster?

What a joke! This is the most embarrassing time I have ever been slandered since I was born!

With full of anger, I reached out a tentacle and pulled that little thing that had ruined my reputation from the sea surface.

"Great...great...great...great...King..."

Seeing me, this little thing was clearly scared out of its wits.

"You're not capable of anything, so don't go around causing trouble. You're ruining my reputation by running around like this, got it?"

I warned it fiercely.

"Unders...understand...I won't prey in your hunting ground anymore!"

"It seems you still haven't figured out the situation!"

I rolled my only eye in a huge way.

"Haven't you heard what the people on the boat said? Those foolish humans thought you were the North Sea monster! It's really embarrassing for me, the great king, to be mistaken for something as small as you!"

As I spoke, I used the suction cups of my tentacles to grab its head and pulled it hard a few times.

"What...what...what did they say...I really don't understand..."

Seeing this little thing look confused, I awkwardly patted its head with a tentacle.

"Damn it, I almost forgot. With your low-level sea tribe intelligence, it's impossible for you to understand human language."

I rolled my huge eye again.

"Okay, well, just remember not to bother the human merchant ships anymore in the future." I said, using the suction cup to pull its head hard again. "Got that?"

The little thing nodded vigorously at me.

"What a good boy."

I stroked its head with satisfaction and then used my tentacles to throw it away forcefully.

I saw its body flying rapidly away from the sea surface to a far distance.

I was probably able to throw it out tens of miles away. I shook my tentacles with satisfaction.

Humph, how can a silly mistake go unpunished?

Just as I was feeling proud of myself, cries of shock from the humans on the deck could be heard again.

"Look! The Kraken is flying!"

"Oh my God!"

"Wife! Come out and see God!"

...

As I listened to the humans' shouts on the deck, I covered my eyes in utter frustration.

Damn it, why are they misunderstanding me again!

These foolish humans!
