I never expected the power of the ocean currents to be so immense. I woke up to find myself being carried to the waters near Iceland. No wonder I ended up in a whale graveyard. (Note: The Kraken is a creature that lives near the Arctic Circle.)
It's like taking a detour from Scotland all over again. How annoying.
Sigh, now I have to travel a longer and unnecessary route.
I let out a sigh and started moving against the current towards the south.
For the next few days, I dared not sleep. I swam day and night until I reached the central part of the Atlantic Ocean, near the Iberian Peninsula.
That day, I was stopped by two mermaid soldiers.
"May I ask what's the matter?" I asked politely.
I had great respect for the mermaid race, even though they were considered lower-class mythological creatures. In this age dominated by monotheistic religions, the number of ancient mythological creatures has decreased significantly. Mythical creatures like mermaids, who have a certain population and their own country, are even rarer.
Therefore, I held the mermaid race in high regard.
"Are you Lord Kraken?" one of the mermaid soldiers asked with great respect.
"Yes, I am Kraken," I replied.
Upon hearing my answer, the mermaid soldier's face lit up with joy.
"Great. We have been ordered by Princess Alice to invite you for a meeting in Atlantis City."
Alice, that little girl?
A young and innocent face appeared in my mind.
But it has been hundreds of years, she must be a grown woman now, right?
Anyway, there is no rush. I'll just visit Atlantis.
"Sure, lead the way," I agreed readily, surprising them a bit. After a brief moment of hesitation, the two mermaid soldiers bowed respectfully and said, "Please."
I saw the two mermaid soldiers leading a dolphin carriage from behind a rock wall.
This was a form of transportation invented by the mermaid race.
Although mermaids were also mythical creatures, besides the royal family, the commoners didn't possess any mythical abilities.
Therefore, over the course of the long years, the mermaid race gradually learned to tame various marine creatures. They incorporated tamed sea creatures into their marine environment and ultimately built a magnificent civilization rivaling that of humans.
The "dolphin carriage" was one of the transportation vehicles invented by the mermaid race.
This vehicle consisted of a giant seashell and two tamed dolphins. The mermaids rode inside the concavity of the seashell and controlled the dolphins with reins made of special seaweed.
If the dolphins were replaced with sharks, it became a war chariot. And if it was replaced with whales, it was either the royal family's carriage or a weapon of war.
The mermaid soldiers drove the dolphin carriage ahead, and I followed behind at a slower pace.
Two days later, I arrived at the capital of the mermaid kingdom, Atlantis City.
This city was originally the capital of the lost civilization of Atlantis, but it sank into the sea along with the end of ancient times and the fall of the Olympian gods. Later, the mermaid race built their capital on the foundation of this ancient relic, eventually developing it into the most prosperous city in the entire Western marine world.
In order to avoid causing a commotion inside the city, I separated my divine body from my physical body. Then I applied an illusion spell to my physical body, making it look like an ordinary underwater hill.
Next, I sat with my divine body on the dolphin carriage with the two mermaid soldiers.
The mermaid soldiers were clearly amazed by my transformation.
Because in my divine body state, I looked just like an ordinary human man in his late twenties.
They couldn't understand why such a powerful mythical creature like me would possess a human form.
So I explained to them that when Prometheus created humans, he shaped them in his own image. So strictly speaking, this face is not "human-shaped" but "god-shaped". Humans were Prometheus' favored species, so they were shaped almost identical to the gods. Other races didn't receive this blessing, and only when they reached the pinnacle of their respective species through cultivation could they assume a "god-shaped" form. But mythical creatures and ordinary beings had certain differences. All mythical creatures naturally possessed both a "physical body" and a "divine body" at the same time. That is why the mermaid royal family can transform into humans and live on land. The mermaid soldier had a sudden realization, but didn't think much of it. While transforming into a human form was a symbol of nobility for the royal family, in the minds of most mermaids, it was a skill that was extremely useless.
Riding on a dolphin carriage, we were getting closer and closer to Atlantis.
Due to being underwater, all living beings moved by floating in the seawater. Therefore, the tall walls left behind by ancient ruins had lost their meaning.
Therefore, the corresponding mermaid tribe set up dozens of sentry posts in the sky above the city as the city's border.
Each sentry post consisted of four giant jellyfish, surrounded by a dozen or so mermaid soldiers holding fishbone-made spears and swords on patrol. Anyone who wanted to enter the capital had to go through these soldiers' inspection. After passing the inspection, the soldiers would give the order to let the four jellyfish stick together, leaving an opening for people to pass through.
In addition, every sentry post was connected to each other. Through the long tentacles of the giant jellyfish, the mermaid tribe tightly connected every sentry post together. By regularly winding and connecting the jellyfish's tentacles, the mermaid tribe constructed a dense network above the capital, enveloping the entire city within it.
These jellyfish, floating above the city, play a role not only as gates and walls but also serve as lighting and a time reference. Although sea people, including mermaids, do not require as much light, a time reference is essential for organizing production and balancing work/rest in the sea, where there is no day or night concept. Therefore, these giant glowing jellyfish also serve as artificial light sources. Additionally, the light refracted by the jellyfish is colorful. Over time, the colorful light of the jellyfish has become a sight of the mermaid capital.
Perhaps it was due to seeing the royal emblem on the dolphin carriage; the guards at the sentry post opened the jellyfish gates without inspection.
We entered Atlantis.
Although not my first time visiting this underwater wonder city, I still marveled at its magnificence.
The stone architecture of humans combined perfectly with coral reefs and seaweed, creating a unique and beautiful cityscape.
Dolphins, whales, sharks... even carriages pulled by turtles were moving through the streets and alleys.
Residents of the mermaid tribe and other intelligent marine creatures wandered the markets and streets in harmony.
Vendors and merchants loudly advertise products from various parts of the ocean.
I really couldn't believe that there was such a metropolis that could rival human civilization in the depths of the sea!
