Chapter 9 Why Accept?

The secluded village of Shiloh has many daily necessities that need to be purchased in Gianda every year. Although nearby towns also sell these items, the prices are mostly high. If it's the Holy City, they are very cheap and the Merchants' Guild is responsible for delivering the goods to the door in large quantities. So in Shiloh, a representative is sent to the city to make purchases every season.

Originally, these tasks were assigned to the village chief, but this year he broke his leg due to his wife's interruption, so he handed the matter over to me, who claimed to have visited the Holy City before.

"Village chief, I can't do this. It's been so many years since I went there, I'm probably getting lost."

I can slay dragons in the Dira Mountains, but I absolutely don't want to go to Gianda.

"Isaac, you can't refuse." The village chief stuffed a letter into my hand. "You are the only one here who has seen the world. Should we let those who only know how to work the fields go?"

"Ah, it doesn't matter who goes. I don't want to go, I don't want to go."

I've already made up my mind to live in seclusion in Shiloh with my daughter for the rest of my life. Returning to Gianda is like letting a convicted felon return to his hometown. If I were to be discovered, Abbott Sterling would be infamous for thousands of years, and I don't know how Cascia herself would look at me if she knew the truth.

My father is not my biological father, but a man who deceived me for fourteen years? A traitorous criminal?

Ah ah ah!!!

I can't even imagine it at all!!!

No, no, no, I absolutely cannot go back!!!

"Isaac, I know you don't want to go." The village chief patted my shoulder. "But can you refuse me, hmm?"

This old man suddenly looked at me mysteriously.

"What... what are you doing? Why can't I refuse you?"

"Hehe." The village chief smirked cunningly. "Have you forgotten who came here in the first place and received my care multiple times, hmm? Isn't it time to repay the favor now?"

"Do you... do you want to play the emotional card? I won't give in!"

Since I came here, I have helped this old man a lot over the years. If it weren't for me stopping him last time, he would have been beaten up by that woman's husband.

"Well, it's not about whether you give in or not." The old man suddenly got close to my face in a nauseating way. "Isaac, do you think no one noticed? That thing... isn't it? Want to take a few sniffs, hmm? Isn't it? If Cascia little sister knows, what would she think, hmm? Ah, dad is a pervert? Huh??"

But when the old man mentioned this, I burst into laughter.

"You old fart!" I answered him fiercely. "You can't threaten me, you damn old thing!"

"Oh ho ho." The village chief smiled as if he accepted my challenge, and made a gesture with his hands. "You punk, what if your daughter knows... about that thing!!!"

Those words hit me like a thunderbolt, and I was completely panicked.

"Old... old man, how do you know?!"

Clearly it was in the dead of night... How could this old man know?

"Hehe, Isaac, that day I happened to pass by your house. You didn't notice, but I was at the window above you, witness to the whole process~" The old pervert's smile became extremely twisted. "And I know even worse things~"

And after hearing that, I instantly knelt down to this old man.

Yes, I really had no right to refuse.

Not even a bit.

-- End of flashback.

This is the entire process of accepting the mission.

So now, for the first time in fourteen years, Cascia and I have come to Shiloh unexpectedly. We look at the starry sky and sit by the campfire.

Originally, I had no intention of bringing Cascia with me and wanted to entrust Miss Katarina to take care of her for a few days. But after discussing it with my daughter, she wholeheartedly agreed. Before I set off, she bid me farewell in the following way: "Uncle Isaac, have a safe journey and take care on the way."

Cascia, who is my daughter, smiled at me like that, and she no longer recognized me as her father.

Therefore, I had to take her on this journey.Although Cascia is with me, she still seems a bit paranoid, constantly observing her surroundings, afraid that something might suddenly appear.

This child has been influenced by me since she was young, instilled with thoughts about how dangerous the outside world is, growing up listening to horror stories, so she is extra cautious.

As for Nero, the cat lounging on her head, he lazily yawns, seemingly unaffected.

"Speaking of which, why did you come along if you're so scared, my daughter..."

Cascia, holding a branch as a weapon, continues to stay on guard.

"If we're going to die, let's die together," she says, "I want to be with Dad even in death."
