Chapter 18: The Return of the White Queen
update icon Updated at 2025/2/13 14:10:12

"Today, your White Queen has returned," said the succubus Leya.

After the failed reconciliation with the leader of the succubi, the second round of negotiations was scheduled for three days later. This time, the negotiations were either one side surrendering completely or both sides declaring war.

During these three days, I took care of my wife with all my heart and soul, together with my sister-in-law. The wound on her tail healed well, but there were missing scales where it had been pierced by a knife. I didn't know if they would grow back in the future. My wife woke up once during this time, looking very weak with no trace of color on her face. When she saw me, she smiled and didn't say anything. She fell asleep again with a smile on her face after my kiss.

A human voluntarily kissing a Medusa; this action shocked my sister-in-law so much that she couldn't close her mouth. Medusa rarely hides her thoughts, so I understand that my sister-in-law is very envious of her sister. During the time I took care of my wife, the person I talked to the most was my beautiful sister-in-law.

Don't be deceived by her youth; she knows more than my wife, especially in terms of magic. Not only can she use healing spells, but she can also instantly boil water. I understood the principle behind it. This magic is more accurately called heating magic, as it can not only boil water but also ignite firewood. The principle is to heat the object itself. If it reaches its ignition point, it will ignite. As long as the magic consumption is large enough, it should be possible to instantly boil the blood inside a person's body... not exactly boiling, just raising the blood temperature to the point of death.

Hmm, magic is truly terrifying.

As we spent more time together, I started to have more conversations with my sister-in-law.

"Um, what is your name?"

"Name?"

"Yes, mine is Raul."

"Um...we don't have names~"

"Then...what should I call you?"

"Just call me sister."

"Um...alright..."

Come to think of it, my wife has never mentioned her name. I'm used to calling her my wife. Do Medusas not have names? Then how does Leya have a name?

"Does sister...have a name?"

"Ah, she doesn't either."

"Then how do you address her?"

"I call her wife."

"Wife?"

"Um...it means husband."

Watching my sister-in-law speak Chinese reminded me of the first time I taught my wife Chinese. That cute and puzzled expression was exactly the same. I even wondered what it would be like if I had met my sister-in-law first instead of my wife. But that's just a thought. They are both my family now.

I don't know if my sister-in-law has met my wife before. It's a matter between the sisters, and maybe my wife used to live with them a long, long time ago.

My sister-in-law stops me when I smoke. It's the first time I've been told not to smoke in another world. Although I won't quit because of her, her pouting face always melts my heart. At night, I roast some meat. It's not to please my wife's sisters, but rather because it's a waste to only use the campfire for warmth. Medusas don't have individual differences in their habits; everyone likes a warm environment. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, watching a bunch of tails lazily squirming under the firelight gives me a tingling sensation...

Counting the days, the day of the second negotiation with the succubi has arrived. On the surface, it is a negotiation, but in reality, it is a challenge. Big sister also said that the succubi are clearly setting up an ambush by luring the Medusas out. I still hold on to a glimmer of hope, hoping to see if there is a peaceful solution. But I was met with the reply, "If they ask us to hand you over, will you agree?"

My wife slept for three days and finally woke up. Medusa's powerful recovery ability comes through sleep. During the winter, long hours of sleep can also reduce energy consumption, which is something humans cannot do. I was still worried about how much she had recovered, but a simple statement of "Honey, I'm hungry" put my mind at ease.

I ate almost all the food in our luggage with her. I tried my best to explain everything that happened after that day. When I mentioned that I was given to the succubi as a condition for the entire afternoon, my wife, with her mouth full of food, stopped chewing.

"I'm sorry..."

"It's okay."

"Aren't you angry?"

"No."

"But..."

"Hehe~"

My wife covered my face with her hand and leaned close to my ear, speaking slowly.

"Well, that succubus is going to die anyway, right?"

She had never spoken such cold words to me before, and the warm breath from her mouth almost froze my ears.

Her fingers, stained with food crumbs, brushed across her nose and finally rested on my lips. For a moment, I felt like she saw me as a mere resource, like any other Medusa would. A chill ran down my spine, but soon enough, my wife returned to her gentle smile and continued eating heartily.

At noon, Auntie gathered nine Medusas and went to negotiate with the succubi again. My wife and I insisted on going along. The ox cart had already been taken to the camp, and I brought all the weapons I could carry, including five guns and an axe. The Medusas also brought plenty of bows and arrows. It seemed like this battle was inevitable.

Silence filled the air as we walked, my wife and I in the center of the group, ready to respond to any possible ambush.

What puzzled me was that this time the succubi didn't launch a surprise attack. Instead, they were all sitting in trees or holding guns or drawing bows. Auntie also seemed a bit taken aback. Can succubi really be so foolish as to face the Medusas head-on?

Naturally, the negotiations yielded no compromises. The succubi wanted me handed over, but the Medusas flatly refused.

The air grew tense. My wife couldn't sit still anymore and, after chanting a spell, aimed her arrow directly at the succubus leader. But both sides seemed to be waiting for the other to make the first move, seeking a grandiose excuse to start the war.

I wasn't sure about the succubi's marksmanship, but I felt more accurate than them at this distance with a rifle.

But I was afraid... of that damn enchantment magic.

"After all this time, you haven't changed a bit."

"What?!"

That familiar voice was Leya, the succubus who was slowly walking out from the shadows of the forest on the right.

"Do you want to fight the Medusas again?"

"No, that's impossible!"

The expression on the succubus leader's face distorted, as if he had seen a resurrected corpse crawling out of a grave. Fear, hatred, panic, and other emotions merged on his twisted lips.

"That is... the 'White Queen'!"

"No way?"

The Medusas exclaimed, and my wife and I were too surprised to know what to say.

"Oh my, Mr. Raul and Mrs. Raul, how have you been lately?"

"Uh? Ah, we've been okay, we've been okay."

"Oh, Mrs. Raul, this ring is so beautiful~"

"Uh... ha, haha, really?"

Leya chatted with my wife as if they were long-lost friends. Including Auntie, all the Medusas were overwhelmed by one question after another. Why were they so friendly? Weren't they Medusas and succubi? Aren't they supposed to exchange a few words and start fighting right away?!

"You don't look so good, Mr. Raul. Hasn't your wife been taking care of you?"

"It's not that, it's just that a lot has happened recently..."

"Oh, by the way, Mr. Raul, Wolfrang is here too. Wolfrang~"

What? Wolfrang is here too?! Are we going to have Simmon and Park rushing in with the black market's carriage as well?

"Hehehe, awoo~ Leya, take it slow, I can't fly~"

A deep, wolf-like voice came from the forest. The sound of continuous friction came closer and closer, until with a swish, the stylish Wolfrang landed on all fours in his standard werewolf pose.

"Oh~ Raul... wait, hmm... Mr. Raul, Mrs. Raul, long time no see!"

Wolfrang had originally planned to greet me directly, but suddenly thought of something. He brushed off the leaves and wood debris from his body, put the hat he was holding in his mouth back on his head in a typical "Wolfrang-style" bow...

Damn it, Wolfie, do you have to be so funny? We're in the middle of a battle, you know!

The Medusas were even more confused now. It was one thing that a succubus started a casual conversation, but why was there a werewolf here? Can't they just have a proper fight and be done with it?

The succubi are on the verge of collapse, and not just them, I am also bewildered by the series of adventures that unfold before my eyes.

Medusa is in heated discussions, the succubi are in a panic, Leya is chatting endlessly with her wife, and the werewolf is showing concern for me...

Has such a scene ever appeared in this forest before?

"Ah, I haven't been back for so long."

Leya seems to have finished talking with her wife and turns to look at the clamoring group of succubi. Instantly, the succubi fall silent. With just a casual remark, Leya manages to silence all the chattering succubi.

"What...what are you here for?!"

It's evident that the succubi leader is trying to mask her fear, but she doesn't back down. It seems that she knows Leya is an opponent she can't defeat and is unwilling to admit defeat.

"I'm back, is there something wrong with that?"

"You shouldn't have come back."

"Oh~ I see, you think you're very powerful now?"

Leya flips her chestnut-colored curls and adjusts the position of the gem hairpin in her bangs.

"You took away the man, left your sisters. Did you think I would do nothing?"

"And what can you do to stop the war?"

"Did you really believe that man gave you a name? Leya, right? Hahaha, what a fool you are, believing that other fool of a man!"

"And what happened? That man died, didn't he? Poor 'Leya', no one needs you now!"

The succubi leader mocks one after another, each word seemingly blood-soaked and tearful, but I don't think she's right.

"You said the one thing you shouldn't have said..."

Leya's tone suddenly drops, "clang," her black wings spread open.

I have never seen Leya in battle before, and instinctively, I focus my attention, holding my breath. Wolfrang, on the other hand, seems entertained, taking out a cigar and lighting it up. My wife crosses her arms in front of her chest, looking completely at ease.

By the time I regain my senses, the battle has already begun.

A glowing red cone appears on the succubi leader's right shoulder, shooting towards Leya like a rocket launcher.

"[Barrier]."

Leya unexpectedly chants a spell I have seen before, and then straight towards the red cone she goes. The white succubi takes a solid blast, and clumps of dirt splatter at my feet. But Leya just stands there, wings shielding her.

A large shield forms in front of her wings from the barrier magic, merging together to completely withstand the explosion's impact. At this moment, Leya is like a black-winged angel, enveloped in a pale blue glow, her white dress floating.

"You're still...not strong enough..."

The declaration of the White Queen is filled with regal power. From that moment, the victory is already decided.

"You must die!"

Once again, the red and black succubi leader chants a spell, but before she can finish, Leya has already pinned her down on the ground. With just two powerful collisions from her wing shields, the succubi leader becomes a struggling prey under the White Queen's knee.

"Sisters, shoot!"

However, not a single succubi shoots.

"First, I didn't steal a man, we fell in love."

"Second, you are no longer our sister."

Leya speaks slowly, grabbing the horn on her head, she forces the succubi leader to reveal her fair neck.

"If you want war, it's just you alone..."

A beautifully crafted dagger, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, is inserted into the succubi leader's neck. The throat, filled with overflowing blood, can only produce gurgling and muffled sounds. The sharp blade cuts from inside out, and the silence returns to the forest as blood flows from the wound.

"Today, your White Queen has returned."

The succubi drop their weapons one by one and fall to the ground, kneeling with one knee, wings folded in front of their foreheads, paying homage to the true succubi queen.

Over a hundred succubi, motionlessly become the backdrop under the sunlight, as Leya spins around. Her snow-white gown floats and then descends, like the leading role in the Moscow Grand Theatre.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to introduce myself. I am Leya, a succubus. You may also call me the 'White Queen'."
