Chapter 20 The Strange Home

I got really drunk last night.

I remember speaking at least three languages, trying out thirty different poses, and uttering over three hundred drunken words.

I'm sure I said something to my wife, but I don't remember.

The next day, we were ready to set off. Wolfrang and Leya had walked over from Night Fall Town, well, "walked" - one could fly and the other had four legs...

After packing our bags and patting the back of the big buffalo, we all set off. Auntie bid us farewell without showing any reluctance, just reminding us to stay safe and that she wouldn't be able to protect us if something happened next time. Little sister also said goodbye to us one by one. She and Leya had known each other before, and Leya's first words upon seeing her were, "You've grown so big." It seemed like they had a teacher-student relationship in learning magic. I guess little sister was born right after Leya's ceasefire. At that time, the two clans were in a thawing period, so communication must have been frequent.

Although the Medusas didn't give us any gifts, they were our lifesavers.

Driving the ox cart, we headed south. According to the map, the werewolf tribe was located in the southernmost part of the plain. If we followed Mountain Dotch, we would pass by our little cave. It would be a good opportunity to go home and check if the seeds we had planted had sprouted.

Speaking of going home, it made sense for Wolfrang to return, but why was Leya coming along?

I asked Wolfrang about it in the cart.

And this werewolf began to play dumb, despite being a grown man. Just say whatever there is to say. If you like Leya, tell us. After all, my wife and I are from different races, so there's nothing for anyone to be taboo about.

But Wolfrang just didn't want to say, no matter how my wife and I teased him.

"I just wanted to come out for a walk, that's all."

Leya ended the topic. The two of them gave me the impression that they liked each other, but not purely so. Considering Leya's dark history, perhaps they each had their own secret. Thinking about this, I stopped teasing Wolfrang.

"Mister Werewolf, I'm tired."

"Please sit, Miss Succubus."

Leya sat on Wolfrang's shoulder again. I have to admit, it looked quite warm.

"Husband, I'm tired."

"..."

Tired my ass! Weren't you just sitting in the cart the whole time? Leya flew in the air for half a day and even used a telescope to guide us. She must be tired, but what's so tiring about sitting?

"Husband, I'm tired!"

"Wife... I'm also tired..."

"But didn't you promise to grant me anything I wanted?"

"Well... Did I say that..."

"You said it last night!"

Huh? I don't remember saying that! I quickly turned to Wolfrang and Leya for help.

The werewolf chose to continue playing dumb.

The succubus looked down at me smugly.

This is revenge, shameless revenge!

"Well... yes, I did say that. Wife, please sit."

Hmm, my wife knows how to play. The tail wrapped around her waist forced me to use all the muscles of my upper body to keep from leaning forward. She stubbornly sat on my lap, using her proudest body part, her chest, to block my entire field of view.

The succubus sitting on the werewolf's shoulder called it "The Love Story of Beauty and the Beast."

The Medusa wrapping around a human's waist as they drove the ox cart called it "The Everyday Entertainment of a Stupid Couple."

I felt like giving up and buried my face in my wife's chest.

"What did I say last night?"

"Oh, you said so much~"

"Give me an example..."

"You want to have a real wedding with your wife in the kingdom."

Wolfrang started.

"And you want to have a child with your wife~"

Leya added fuel to the fire.

Enough, have I really said so much? And it's been a long time since I mentioned the word "wedding."

So be it, this journey would be more interesting with the two of them, and with Leya and Wolfrang accompanying us, I could sleep peacefully at night.

It takes more than two days to walk from the northernmost part of Mountain Dotch to home, and time flies quickly along the way. We were fortunate to have Wolfrang's help when we passed the Cold Creek, otherwise our big yellow cow would have drowned in the river.

After roaming around outside and returning home, it wasn't the happiness and relaxation I had expected. Besides exhaustion, there was no other feeling.

The seeds planted in the ground sprouted and grew twisted and crooked, and I didn't bother to care for them.

Walking into the cave, the scattered books and piled fur were the same as last year. I wanted to express some sighs, but I had no words.

The werewolf and succubus curiously inspected the surroundings, giving evaluations of the small cave.

There was nothing in the house to entertain the two guests, not even enough chairs. So the four of us sat around the table on the fur-covered floor, chatting without any specific topic.

Since returning home, I've always felt that something is off. This small cave called "home" gives me a familiar yet strange feeling. Wolfrang made fun of the roof I renovated, Leya flipped through a few books I bought before.

"What should we have for dinner?"

"Giraffe, I guess."

My wife answered without lifting her head, her attention focused on the conversation with Leya. She didn't seem to have any intention of going hunting with me. I really don't understand why women talk so much.

I had no choice but to go out and catch the giraffe on my own with my rifle, all while practicing my marksmanship.

Unintentionally, I sighed.

Why did I sigh? Nothing unfortunate happened...

Pinching my nose, I regained my spirit and slung the rifle on my back, heading outside.

"Raul, wait, I'll come too."

Wolfrang's voice came from behind me. I paused for a moment, then continued walking forward. Indeed, listening to women chat is extremely boring for men. We can't play with our phones at the table.

"Haha, no need to rush, it's only noon now." Wolfrang caught up to me and said cheerfully. I patted his sturdy werewolf arm and after a while managed to squeeze out a sentence, "Let's go."

"Raul, you and your wife live in that small cave, right?"

"Yes."

"Oh~ What do you usually do then?"

"Well... not much, just eat and sleep."

"Mr. Raul, you don't seem very happy..."

"Really?"

"Of course, I can tell."

"Haha... who knows."

I felt annoyed after a simple chat with Wolfrang. After returning home, there was always a bit of resentment in my heart. Maybe it was because of my wife's somewhat cold attitude towards me recently.

"Shh..."

Wolfrang suddenly stopped me and pointed to a distant giraffe. I nodded, indicating that we should get closer before shooting.

Quietly and carefully, we found a suitable spot. I leaned against a tree with my right shoulder, rested the rifle stock in a comfortable position, raised the gun with my left hand, and aimed the barrel at the giraffe with just a sight but no rear sight.

But my mind kept conjuring up the image of my wife with her back turned to me.

Lowering the gun, then raising it again, I couldn't pull the trigger.

Wolfrang looked at me with confusion and gestured, asking if he should do it instead.

In the end, I gave up and nodded to let him do the hunting. The werewolf quietly took two steps to the left and then dashed towards the giraffe like the wind. With the werewolf's overwhelming speed advantage, the giraffe only ran a few steps before it was grabbed and its neck broken by the werewolf's claws.

...

"If there's something on your mind, it's better to speak it out."

After capturing the giraffe, Wolfrang and I didn't immediately return. I sat on the ground leaning against the tree, with the rifle in my arms. Wolfrang sat on the prey and said this to me.

"I can't speak it out..."

Even if I wanted to speak, my language skills were not enough to express even thirty percent of my thoughts. Wolfrang took out a cigar from his pocket, cut the end with his claws, and handed it to me, then took out a matchstick and lit it. The heavy cigar had a plaster-like taste when smoked. I took a puff, and Wolfrang did the same.

"Say it, it's better to say than not say."

"What should I say?"

"Are you scared?"

"Scared... No, not really."

"I think the only thing that can make you unhappy is something about your wife."

"Pretty much."

Wolfrang took the cigar, blew on it hard, and the tip glowed red. I wanted to say you're really boring, but I couldn't say it and could only laugh awkwardly a few times.

"Do you think I really love her?"

"Well... shouldn't you be asking yourself that?"

"Why do I feel like she and I have grown apart after so many things happened?"

"You two were already far apart."

Yes, in many senses, the distance between her and me was already quite far. Or I could put it this way, we were already separated by two different worlds.

"Wolfrang, were my actions before correct?"

"What you did wasn't about right or wrong, but about changing other things."

"Changing?"

"Yes, the most difficult thing isn't those demons, but it's here."

Wolfrang pointed to his heart and handed me the remaining half of the cigar.
