Act 1: The dragon is not having much luck today.
update icon Updated at 2023/7/12 19:07:46

Dragons, positioned at the top of the food chain, are legendary creatures favored by the gods. They possess powerful physical bodies, the ability to use magic, and an intelligence superior to humans.

However, these formidable creatures do not enjoy a good reputation in the human world. It is probably due to their hobbies, such as their love for shiny things, showcasing their strength, and their pursuit of beauty.

In simpler terms, they enjoy looting treasures, attacking castles, and kidnapping princesses.

Therefore, humans prefer to refer to them as "evil dragons," and even created a profession called "dragon slayer" with the goal of slaying dragons. Whenever an evil dragon is discovered, everyone rushes to attack, and the person who successfully slays the dragon earns the respect and admiration of all.

As a kind-hearted dragon, Astelitin finds it difficult to understand this. Why is it that all dragons are treated as villains? It is disheartening to introduce oneself as a dragon and receive responses like "Oh, you are that infamous evil dragon." He knows he hasn't done anything wrong or harmful!

Because of this, Astelitin doesn't like humans very much. But at this moment, his priority is to find a safe and dignified way to escape.

In the distance, there are continuous mountain ranges that reach the sky, with lush forests covering the mountains. In front of him lies a vast red plain, where sparse vegetation is swept up by gusts of wind, creating a whirlwind of sand.

After the wind and sand settle, a few small figures appear in the shadow ahead.

The leader is a knight holding a holy sword, wrapped in a magnificent dark golden armor from head to toe. The breastplate, shoulder armor, arm guards, and even the undershirt are engraved with various dazzling patterns. These engravings are not just for decoration; armor embedded with Elf spells is considered a treasure in many aspects. A knight who possesses such armor is no ordinary person.

"Everyone, our target for this extermination is right in front of us. Let us join forces and kill this evil dragon that has been causing harm, restoring peace to this land!" The holy knight drew his sword and pointed at the giant dragon lying in the nearby cave with a bewildered expression. A faint golden light emitted from his body, complementing his muscular physique and resonant voice, truly resembling a messenger of justice.

"Hey, hey, hey! Who is causing harm here? I can stay in the cave quietly and only occasionally go to the human world for a friendly visit. Don't spread false accusations, or I'll sue you!" The dragon retorted, but unfortunately, dragons' vocal structure is different from humans', so it only emitted a few deep roars, seemingly showcasing a threat to the dragon slayers below.

"Since Sir Knight has spoken, we will do our best."

Behind the holy knight, an old man in white robes lifted the pointed wizard hat on his head with a faint smile, revealing a withered and aged face. He lightly stroked his snowy white beard with his left hand, and a pale blue light emitted from the ring on his right finger. A walnut wood staff suddenly appeared in his hand without any warning.

"You old man, you speak so nicely, but why were you so cunning during the pursuit earlier? This time we're really going for it, so don't let us down!" said a gunslinger wearing lightweight leather armor as he pulled out a pitch-black triangular war spear from the ground. He swung it twice and clasped both hands in front of his chest. A strand of black hair fell on his forehead and swayed in the wind. The exposed muscles on his arms were tightly stretched, containing explosive strength. His amber eyes stared fiercely at the dragon, revealing his warrior's eagerness for battle.

"Old man, leave the long-range support to you and Justin. I need the blessing of strength and speed," a calm and emotionless voice suddenly rang out from nowhere. People couldn't locate the source of the voice with their eyes; they could only capture a trace of faint smoke.

"No problem at all. Leave it to me and the old man! Just a dragon, we've killed plenty before!" The archer, a handsome man with a scar running two centimeters from the corner of his eye down his face, said with a smirk. Although it marred his facial beauty, it added to his rugged charm.

Hearing the conversation of the dragon-slaying team through his ability to hear the wind, the dragon grew even more anxious. Oh no, this group seems different from those lucky adventurers I've encountered in the past. It really seems dangerous.

Following the traditional approach, he should let out a few dragon roars, breathe some fire, and then openly fight the dragon slayers. His pocketbook contains some commonly used tough phrases, like "you insignificant pests..." and so on.As a proud Dragon, escape is absolutely not allowed -

Bullshit!

Twisting its massive body, the dragon began to consider running away. Seriously, it's all well and good to be handsome and fight openly, but that's a different story from being alive or dead. Compared to its own life, what does Dragon's pride matter!

Three seconds later -

The wings of the dragon, which span over ten meters, fully extended and vigorously flapped, lifting its fifteen-meter-long body into the sky.

Goodbye, I won't accompany you. The dragon flew away, glancing down at the dragon slayers who had become small black dots on the ground, feeling quite pleased.

Then the dragon felt a headache and couldn't fly higher.

Gazing with its large eyes, the dragon noticed an invisible barrier in the sky, almost imperceptible in the sunlight, only occasionally rippling like the surface of water, revealing its presence.

...

"Thank goodness we prepared the barrier in advance, or else it would have escaped for real."

The old wizard with a white beard wiped away his sweat. The top of his staff emitted a soft, luminescent white light. However, just as he relaxed for less than two seconds, the light began to flicker along with the wavering of the barrier in the sky.

"How is this possible?!"

Though Dragon could use magic, most dragons could only use spells of a single element, and their elemental attributes could usually be determined by their appearance. For example, red dragons for fire, green dragons for water, and blue dragons for wind.

Judging from the white scales on that dragon's body, its magic system should belong to ice and snow magic. However, the aerial barrier was a standard spatial magic, so theoretically, that dragon shouldn't have been able to do anything against the barrier!

The leader, the holy knight, was the quickest to react. He strode forward, charging with his sword raised, and shouted, "Domingosen, enhance; Justin, intercept the dragon; the rest of you, follow me!"

Following closely behind the holy knight were the spearmen and a barely visible shadow. The white-bearded wizard raised his staff, and a beam of light enveloped the three charging warriors, distorting the air and forming wings of wind. This allowed the dragon slayers to fly in the sky.

"Damn it! The coach is cheating! And there's something like this?"

Noticing that the three dragon slayers below were catching up, the dragon raised its small claw and wiped its nonexistent sweat from its forehead, accelerating the speed of decrypting the magic incantation.

Justin raised his longbow and continuously shot at the dragon. More than ten rays of light hit the dragon's spine, but they were not enough to penetrate its scales.

Whether it hurts or not is one thing, and whether it's painful or not is another. The dragon wasn't worried about being hurt by the archer's arrows, but it did hurt when the arrows struck its body.

"Hussein, stop him! The incantation is about to be broken!" The wizard noticed that the glow representing the barrier's magic at the top of his staff was already faltering, so in his anxiety, he quickly cast a sound transmission spell to the holy knight.

The holy knight was startled, immediately gestured to the spearman beside him, and the two exchanged glances.

"Leave it to me."

With a fierce grin, the spearman exuded a feral aura. The tip of his trident shook, and a pitch-black flame surged up like a torch burning black flames.

After a brief moment of charging power, the spearman raised his right arm holding the trident, extending his body like a stretched bow, and then—

Throw! The trident left the hand!

The pitch-black trident, with unmatched power, directly pierced the dragon, who was in the process of breaking the barrier incantation. The spearman had already flown a distance upward before throwing the spear, and the distance between the two sides had been shortened to less than two hundred meters. At such a distance, the spear could cross in an instant.

This spear was one of the spearman Lance's most proud moves, with considerable power. Moreover, the black flames attached to it would rapidly ignite upon contact with the enemy. Even if it couldn't kill the dragon, it would be enough to interrupt the incantation and cause the dragon great trouble.

Just as the flames of the spearhead were about to touch the dragon's scales on its back, the dragon, with its massive and seemingly clumsy body, unexpectedly displayed incredible agility... and dodged it!

Nobody saw how it was done. Almost like teleportation, the dragon evaded the spear with lightning speed, flashing to a position half a body length to the side.

Not hitting its target, the spear of black flames continued its upward trajectory and collided with the barrier.

There are two methods to break a barrier: first, unraveling the incantation to eliminate the barrier, and second, using overwhelming force to destroy it.

After the dragon's decryption, although the barrier hadn't been completely lifted, its resilience had been weakened. By receiving a swift and accurate throw from the spearman, the barrier was shattered without any suspense.Paladin: "......"

Gunner: "......"

Old Magus: *cough*

The barrier not only connected to his staff but also bound the old magus's spiritual power, enabling him to constantly replenish the barrier with magic. So, when the barrier was forcibly shattered, the old magus immediately coughed up a mouthful of blood.

"What the hell, Lancel! Are you deliberately trying to take advantage of me? Are you doing this on purpose?"

Ignoring the damaged staff, the old magus stomped his feet in anger, destroying the image of a wise sage. He continuously used the communication spell to bombard the gunner's eardrums, and then, due to his unstable injuries and forcibly using more magic, he spat out another mouthful of blood.

"Hey, old man, calm down! Be careful not to vomit blood and die!" The gunner also started to panic a bit. He swore on his conscience that he didn't do it on purpose. Who could have expected that the giant dragon would dodge so quickly! Clearly, its previous attacks from Justin were all successfully intercepted. Why did it suddenly change its tactics?

"Hey! Why don't you just honestly take the attack?" The gunner, feeling frustrated, turned his head and angrily chastised the dragon, who seemed somewhat confused by the broken barrier.

"Roar! Roar roar roar roar! (Am I an idiot? I'll still take it, take, take, take it, you bastard!)"

The paladin silently covered his face. The legendary dragon slayer hero was not quite what he had imagined!

Three seconds later, the dragon suddenly realized that the barrier seemed to have been shattered.

Flapping its wings, it ran away.

The dragon slaying team below also realized that it wasn't the time to vent their anger anymore, but it was too late to chase after it. Without the restriction of the barrier, how could these humans who relied on the old magus's magic to fly possibly match the speed of a dragon born with wings?

After flying a certain distance, the dragon let out a sigh of relief. It should be able to get away now, right? It just needed to find a secluded deep forest where no one was present and hide for a while to be safe.

Unfortunately, according to the pattern, someone as handsome as him (crossed out) wouldn't have good luck.

Suddenly, the sound of a blade tearing through the air rang in its ears.

The dragon instinctively raised its massive head and looked up, almost popping its eyes out in fright.

What the what the what the what is that thing!

A brilliant ice-blue light flashed in the sky as a small black figure descended from above. Along with it came a massive sword light that stretched for forty meters!

Next time, before going out, it should definitely consult the heavens and check the almanac carefully...

These were the dragon's last thoughts before losing consciousness.
