Chapter 32:Arrived at the Royal Capital, Our Dragonslayers
update icon Updated at 2023/8/8 10:10:12

After a month of traveling, the Giliasburg convoy finally entered the royal capital district.

During the rest of the journey, due to their concealed identities, things went relatively smoothly. Apart from two encounters with bandits, there were no real attacks, and those two attacks, after interrogating some of the bandits, confirmed that they were not acting on someone's orders.

One could say that apart from being boring, there wasn't much to complain about.

The royal capital district was much smaller compared to the province. They entered the borders in the early morning, and by four or five in the afternoon, the convoy was already close to the capital.

With the horses snorting and pulling the carriages along the main road, the jingling of the carriage bells, and the silhouette of the capital coming into view on the distant horizon, Aya, who had traveled in the human world before, was still greatly astonished by the city outside the window.

"Geez... how was this city even built?"

If there was one word to describe the capital of Gusbeld, it would undoubtedly be: a miracle.

The city stood on the coast, but it was not a bustling trade hub. It was situated on a large peninsula, with only one bridge connecting it to the mainland while the other three sides consisted of steep cliffs, except for a gentle sandy shore to the south. The constant crashing waves and hidden reefs served as natural barriers, blocking incoming and outgoing merchant ships.

The peninsula sloped gently from west to east, and the highest point of the city was the magnificent royal palace of Ellis Yuen. The edges of the peninsula were surrounded by colossal city walls, about twenty meters high and ten meters wide, which looked like a continuous mountain range from afar. Every hundred meters or so, there were small conical towers on the walls, and the bluish walls were intricately carved with complex inscriptions.

These were set up by the Temple Church and formed a part of the gigantic defensive formation that enveloped the entire capital. According to its claims, the defense was strong enough to withstand attacks from dozens of dragons or legendary-level powerhouses.

Legend had it that Gusbeld was a divine miracle bestowed upon the Kingdom of Milanenia, but in fact, it was the result of three generations' effort over nearly a hundred years.

As the wheels rolled on, the convoy arrived at the only land entrance to Gusbeld. Beyond the hundreds of meters wide bridge was the most magnificent section of the city walls, with twelve gates over twenty meters high. They seemed to be prepared not for pedestrians, but for the legendary gods.

The surface of the walls on either side was adorned with various exquisite reliefs, depicting the heroic figures of the kingdom's past. These tall and mighty statues stood proudly with giant blades in their hands, their eyes gazing into the distance, as if guarding this ancient nation.

"Humans are really something, huh?!"

As the convoy approached the base of the city walls, the visual pressure became even stronger.

"Tch, it's not that impressive." Tiran propped his chin with one hand, his expression slightly absent-minded. "It's just a twenty-meter-high wall. I've seen towers that reach the sky."

"... " Aya's eye twitched. A tower that reaches the sky? That's probably something created by the gods, right? Anyway, it doesn't exist in this world.

The carriage continued to move forward and entered Gusbeld through the city gates. Suddenly, there was a surge of cheers outside the carriage, like the tide of the sea.

"Huh? What's going on?" Aya was stunned, and the nearby Jiujiu seemed startled by the sudden cheering and buried its head in Aya's arms with a "chirp."

"What the heck..." Tiran also seemed completely unprepared for this situation and was startled after glancing out of the window.

They were traveling on the main road of the capital, wide enough to accommodate sixteen carriages side by side, but it was already filled with people. The soldiers of the security forces, responsible for maintaining order on both sides of the road, had to hold up their long spears to block the enthusiastic crowd. Even so, the well-trained soldiers were being pushed back by the crowd's surge.

"They... are they all here to see you?"

"I don't know, maybe?" Tiran innocently shrugged, but had a somewhat ominous feeling.

"Of course, they are here for His Highness," the maid chief Mimi, who had been sitting quietly in the carriage, finally spoke. After picking up Jiujiu, the maid chief had abandoned her task of guarding the cargo to try very hard...to get close to Jiujiu. However, it seemed that the first impression was too intense, and Jiujiu still felt timid towards the maid chief."For me? Why?" Tiran pointed at herself, puzzled. Although she had a certain reputation, it couldn't possibly have escalated to this extent, could it? The crowd outside was massive, as if a hundred thousand people were present.

Mimi stayed silent for a moment and let out a sigh. "Your Highness... don't you know what you've done?"

"Huh? I don't think I've done anything."

"Of course it's about Aya," Mimi rubbed her forehead. It seemed that her princess was quite slow in this aspect. "If killing a dragon isn't a big deal, then there probably aren't many big deals in the world."

"Oh..."

"Oh? Seriously?! Please consider the feelings of the victims!" Aya became frantic. So, the reason why a hundred thousand people were welcoming the princess was because of the rumors that she had killed her? This felt really...

Coach, I have a line that may not be suitable.

"It's not just because of this incident. His Majesty also played a role in building your image, thanks to the efforts of the Kingdom's intelligence organization."

Tiran's face turned dark as she recalled the excessively dramatic report, feeling that it was a black history. And besides, what was that intelligence department doing all the time instead of doing their actual work? They might as well change their name to the news division!

However, in the next moment, Tiran's expression fell as she stared directly at Gavie, the knight leading the way on horseback.

"What does that guy want to do?!" Tiran had a bad feeling about this.

"In the name of King Easton! In the name of Lionheart Knights! In the name of your ancestors! We pay our highest respects to the Dragon Slayer, the Silver War Maiden Tiran Elis Rhymes!"

The triumphant horn began to sound, and the crowd erupted in excitement.

The Crusaders had already taken off their robes, revealing their bright armor as they guarded the sides. Knight Commander Gavie, at the forefront, rode his horse and drew his longsword from his waist, raising it high in front of his chest as he shouted. The other Crusaders followed suit, holding their swords high and joining in with a synchronized and loud cheer.

The organized chanting quickly spread to the surrounding civilians who were watching, and they, too, started to chant in response. The enthusiastic atmosphere, centered around the procession, spread rapidly and turned into a unified chorus.

"Long live Princess Tiran!"

"White Knight Princess!"

"Silver War Maiden, marry me!"

"What does that last person mean?!" Tiran nearly hit her head against the carriage wall, especially when she saw that the person loudly professing their love to her was an incredibly cute girl.

With a hundred thousand people cheering, supported by nearly ten thousand soldiers from the security forces to maintain order, this welcome ceremony would be seen as the epitome of glory by others. However, for Tiran, who disliked being in crowded places and stayed at home every day, having a hundred thousand people chanting her name...

"It's so embarrassing!" Tiran covered her face and rolled around in the carriage.

Well, it was like being publicly executed.
