Chapter Four: The Hero Seems a Bit Strong? (Part One)

One early morning, I was awakened by Eldew.

Since today was the day of the war with the brave, Eldew only called me three times before I gave up on sleeping in. After all, as the lord of the city and the king of the sea, sacrificing a little sleep was necessary.

I, along with two maids, lived in a mansion on the north side of The City of Moria.

To describe the mansion briefly, there was a mountain, a grove, and a lake in the courtyard. As for the mansion itself, it had three floors and over fifty rooms. To put it more complicated, even Eldew, a lover of wealth, couldn't sell this mansion because no one in The City of Moria could afford it.

Of course, I didn't build this mansion, and I certainly didn't buy it. With the meager military funds given to me by the Demon Lord, I could barely afford half of this mansion after not eating or drinking for seven hundred years.

This mansion was a gift from the previous lord three years ago and was one of the few possessions I had.

However, compared to this mansion, the three thousand brand new maid uniforms left by the previous lord were the greatest treasures in this world. That former lord truly was a gentleman.

The only regret was that he didn't leave three thousand girls who could wear these maid uniforms.

Maintaining and preserving three thousand outfits was a big challenge. However, it didn't pose a problem for me, as I had almost no responsibilities as the lord. I spent my days doing nothing, and maintaining these maid uniforms gave me a sense of purpose in life.

"Master, whenever you have that expression on your face, it means you're thinking of something foolish."

A childish voice interrupted my thoughts.

Usually, Eldew's tone would be filled with indifference, disdain, contempt, or pity, but she would never bluntly say that I was foolish. And her voice should not sound childish.

So, the answer to who interrupted my thoughts was obvious. There were only three people in this mansion, including me.

I lowered my head and saw a girl who was about the height of my heart.

Also a mermaid, also wearing a maid uniform that suited her well, Eldew's younger sister, Meruvie.

"Oh, it's rare to see you awake at this hour, Meruvie, Meruvie."

I happily patted Meruvie's head, which was conveniently within reach and seemed very satisfying to pat.

Thinking back to when I first saw Meruvie two years ago, she was already this height. How come she hasn't grown at all in two years? Could it be that she will always remain this small?

"After all, it's the war with the brave today. As a maid to the master, I also want to contribute. I'm sure the master is full of motivation today, so he won't call me by any strange nicknames. Otherwise, it would be troublesome to lose one or two arms before the war, right?"

Meruvie said with a cheerful smile.

Meruvie had a straightforward and honest personality, saying whatever she thought, and rarely joking.

In order to meet the war with the brave in the best condition, from now on, I will address her as Lady Meruvie...

On this morning, Meruvie and I went to the dining room together, and the two maid sisters had hot bread for breakfast in front of me. I twitched my eye corner and watched them finish eating, then went outside to find some dewdrops on leaves to satisfy my hunger.

Damn it!

This time, we absolutely have to win the war with the brave, and I absolutely have to use the prize to indulge in a feast!

In the early morning of the battle with the brave, a fanaticism arose within me like never before.

Overall, since the third human-demon treaty, the relationship between humans and demons has been quite peaceful.

In the distant past, humans and demons may have been locked in a life-and-death struggle, with bloodshed and destruction. But at some point, both humans and demons realized something.

Completely annihilating an intelligent race seemed unrealistic. And humans didn't seem to encounter the massive invasion of demons they imagined, and demons didn't seem to have a liking for eating or attacking humans.Although the number of demons cannot surpass that of humans due to breeding issues, their abilities are several times stronger than humans from birth. In addition to the occasional emergence of mutant heroes among humans and the inevitable birth of the supreme demon king in each demon clan, the strength of both sides always maintains a delicate balance.

As a result, numerous great figures initiated the first, second, and third human-demon treaties. Although I seem to have been present on the occasion of the signing of the third human-demon treaty, I can't remember. It seems that my memory periodically resets due to my long life.

The third human-demon treaty basically achieved peace between humans and demons. However, it is still uncomfortable to have a different race jumping and frolicking around you. Therefore, the treaty also stipulates the rules of war.

Similar to humans having dozens or hundreds of kingdoms, demons also have dozens or hundreds of clans. The usual targets of war for both sides are the neighboring corresponding countries.

However, the so-called war is not as bloody as its literal meaning. Simply put, the current war between humans and demons is a simulated battle among a few elites.

If humans win, the participants naturally gain treasures and experience points from the demons. Their respective countries also receive a certain number of war points.

If demons win, the participants can obtain prisoners and a portion of the food supplies belonging to the losers' organization. Their respective countries also receive a certain number of war points.

These war points can be used to exchange many things from the opponent's country. But generally speaking, both sides will choose to obtain the research results held by the other side.

For example, the demons' research on magic. Or, humans' research on agriculture.

As time passes, the corresponding countries on both sides seem to be sharing their research in an awkward manner. The relationship between the corresponding nations of mutual prosperity and coexistence has also become like that of two slightly spoiled lovers.

Just like the Komia Sacred Empire corresponding to us, even members of their royal family will come to our territory for summer vacation.

Therefore, even if I face war today, I will not encounter any actual danger.

However, I cannot afford to lose today, no matter what.

Because in these three years, I have lost a total of twenty-nine wars. As for the accusations against me by others in the demon king's camp, they have become as common as eating rice. If I lose again today, I'm afraid I won't be able to continue living leisurely as one of the Four Heavenly Kings.

Not to boast, but I have no livelihood skills or any special talents. I am a born leader.

If I can't be one of the Four Heavenly Kings and even get demoted to a commoner, I'm afraid I will starve to death.

I don't want to live a day where I can't even drink dew.

Standing at the top of the city wall, I tremble from the chilly autumn wind.

Whoever comes today, The city of Moria, guarded by me, will never be breached!
