Chapter 27: Xixi and the Smoke-Free Zone

A mature woman with a beautiful figure, wearing only an off-shoulder nightgown, sat leaning against the counter on a bench. She was surrounded by odd and rare objects and seemed to be yawning just waking up.

"The Future Witch?" Turing was a little confused.

"Is there really a witch who can foresee the future or even control it?"

"Xixi, don't take it seriously." Merka walked over to the witch and picked up the crumpled coat hanging on her bench.

"She's always making things up."

"Perhaps if she sees a cute dog on the street tomorrow, she'll start calling herself the Dog Witch."

Merka smoothed out the coat a bit and draped it over the witch, whispering softly beside her, "It's still cold out, and it's easy to catch a cold wearing so little. Besides, you're running a shop and need to attract customers. You should pay a little more attention to your appearance."

[Why is Merka so close to her...damn!]

An unnamed anger rose in Turing's heart. The witch had no idea that her evaluation had dropped several levels in Turing's eyes.

"I need to have Teresa find out more about this person. I want to know who she really is."

"If necessary...it's okay to deal with her."

Turing stood at the door and raised her hand, motioning for Merka to give her a high-five.

The witch glanced meaningfully at Turing and said to Merka, "Go, go. That girl is calling for you. Today, you two can look around my store as you please. If there's something you want to buy, I'll give you a 10% discount."

"Oh, uh, thank you." Merka nodded slightly, feeling a little strange.

"What's her name? I want to know." Turing grabbed onto the cuff of Merka's sleeve, which had just passed by, with one hand, while the other hand lightly covered her mouth, with a dark face questioning.

"Um...I don't know what her name is either. And she doesn't want to tell me. I usually just call her Miss Witch or something." Merka thought to herself, wondering why Turing suddenly seemed suspicious.

[Hmph, she doesn't even tell Merka her real name. She's a step behind me.]

[Wait, but am I not the same as her...]

"Is it that Xixi doesn't like this person very much? Or is it that you're not good at dealing with witches?" Merka asked, leaning closer to Turing.

"If you don't like her, you have to tell me."

"Oh, no, how could that be." Turing quickly crossed her arms in front of her chest and waved her hands to dispel the awkwardness, taking several steps towards the store.

However, she was walking right into the lion's den.

"Oh my! Merka, you actually brought such a cute little girl. Is she your girlfriend? I'm really envious." The previously lazy and sleepy witch suddenly sprang up from her seat, all signs of fatigue and laziness gone, and energetically walked up to Turing. Before Turing could react, she grabbed both of Turing's shoulders with her hands, almost hugging her.

[What girlfriend...what does she mean by girlfriend? Why does she say I'm cute? Why is this villain praising me instead?]

Turing's face went red in an instant, not knowing what she was thinking, and started daydreaming on the spot.

"Stop teasing her, will you? If you keep this up, I won't come anymore." Merka, helpless, walked over to Turing and placed her hand on the witch's arm, pushing it away, indicating for her to let go.

"No choice, after all, this child is really cute. Her name is Sissi, right? It's a bit of a boyish name." The witch nodded, withdrew her hands, crossed her arms, and took a few steps back.

[Huh? Did Merka just call me by my full name? How does she know the full pseudonym I told her?]

[I don't think I've said it myself.] The shyness of a typical teenage girl suddenly disappeared in an instant, replaced by a sense of nervousness. Turing's eyebrows twitched slightly, becoming extremely vigilant.

[Did Merka tell her about everything that happened between me and her? If someone with ulterior motives hears about my interaction with Merka, it's easy to deduce my true identity.]"This is dangerous for me," Turing thought to herself.

"Come on, Sisi, don't pay attention to her. Although she's a bit strange, her merchandise is worth a look," Merka said, pulling Turing's hand and walking towards the shelf of goods.

Turing listened to Merka's words but couldn't help but glance back at the witch.

Surprisingly, Turing's gaze met the witch's eye-to-eye, and the witch was also looking at Turing.

While her gaze was shrewd, it was also gentle.

"Sisi, take a look at what this is," Merka pointed to a small metal strip on a display stand. The display stand in the small shop had a bold and natural shape, with glass barriers like canine teeth, and the merchandise on top was completely unprotected, allowing people to touch and appreciate it.

"This is..." Turing looked at the merchandise label next to it, "a handgun?" Turing temporarily put aside her suspicions of the witch.

"A gun? It's completely different from a hunting rifle, and it's so small," Turing wondered.

"Wow, such a small gun, isn't it amazing?" Merka exclaimed excitedly to Turing.

"Well... it's hard enough to load a hunting rifle, so it might be even harder with something so small," Turing reasoned.

"And with such a small handle, if the recoil is as strong as a hunting rifle, the accuracy might suffer," Turing added.

"Moreover, it might be even more difficult to maintain such a small gun, and if you accidentally discharge it while cleaning..." Turing seriously analyzed Merka's opinions.

"Hey, does Sisi have to pour cold water on me like this..." Merka pouted.

"Oh, I just wanted to make it look like I was seriously listening to Merka. Did I go too far?" Turing wondered.

"It's okay, it's okay, I was just joking," Merka said, her chaotic eyes washing over Turing's heart like a stream.

"Take a look at this, it's one of my favorite imported goods," Merka said, walking to another counter.

"This is a printer, it can also print Braille. Tidal Witch helped me print Braille versions of various foreign books with it," Merka explained.

"After all, she knows Braille and foreign languages, and has a typewriter, so I got to know her," Merka said, scratching her head in a shy manner. "But it's really expensive. I can only see it here by chance."

"Hey, Sisi, guess how much it costs?" Merka suddenly changed the topic and asked in a tone that couldn't reveal her intention.

"Huh?" Turing panicked, not knowing the average consumer's spending power at all.

"100,000? 200,000? If even Merka, who serves as Maria's staff, thinks it's expensive... maybe 1 million?" Turing tried to guess.

"Well, it's not that expensive," Merka smiled coyly. "If you really squeeze yourself, you can afford it, but it wouldn't be very sensible."

"Sisi, let's take a look at this..." Merka moved step by step, looking at one item at a time. As she spoke, she mixed her aspirations and love for the items into the introductions. Even Turing, who was not interested in foreign things, was subtly influenced.

Unconsciously, the two children had already looked at most of the store's merchandise.

"To be honest, compared to the other shops we just visited, the variety of goods here is incomparable," Turing thought.

"But this witch has this advantage and yet she chose to build her shop here," Turing pondered.

"For example, those handguns that I've never seen in other stores... could it be that they are banned items, and that's why no one else imports them? So, the witch had to build a shop in such an inconspicuous place?"

"After all, it's a kind of weapon, how does she have the qualifications to sell weapons privately?" Turing thought.

The witch sat in her original seat, smiling at the two. Although Turing felt that she had speculated a lot about her, her intuition told her that she hadn't hit the mark on any one thing.【There's something dangerous about this woman...】 Turing believed in his intuition.

"Hey, this doesn't look like something from a foreign country," Merka said strangely as she approached a peculiar cross.

"Oh, this," the witch stood up with a premeditated plan, pulling her coat and appearing uncomfortable due to the friction between her shoulder and skin.

"This is a staff I used before."

"It looks quite exaggerated, doesn't it?" The witch sounded proud.

The nearly one-meter-tall cross-shaped smoking pipe had obvious scars and gaps, but they couldn't hide the dark green luster emitted by its high-quality material.

The handle had three short stems with smoking pots and openings, while the long handle seemed to have a small narrow mouthpiece. Although it was strange, we had to speculate that the correct way to use this cross staff was not to hold it straight like a cross sword, but rather to use it in reverse.

"I haven't needed to use magic much lately."

"So, I decided to sell the staff in the shop as part of my merchandise, as many as possible," the witch said.

【Even if you don't use magic anymore, isn't it a waste to sell to someone who smokes?】

"Well...how much do you plan to sell it for?" Turing asked.

"All of one person's belongings. Got it?" The witch's words perfectly matched the elusive aura of a witch.

"In this world, people have rich or poor backgrounds, which directly leads to different people paying different amounts for the same thing, whether it's a heavy or light cost for them."

"But this trade of the staff is my innovative idea."

"Look at the price, all of one person's belongings," the witch tapped the price tag next to the smoking pipe, which boldly read {All of One Person's Belongings}.

"Of course, if little Sisi wants the staff, she also needs to give up all of her belongings."

"If she lies and says she doesn't have anything, I will definitely see through it."

Turing was shocked by the witch's remarks.

【What does she really want to do?】

"Sisi, don't be afraid. She's just teasing you," Merka scolded the witch with a stern glance.

"Let's go, no need to stay here."

"This time, I won't take care of your business. No discounts either. Good luck with your regrets." Merka spoke to the witch in a joking tone mixed with a hint of irritation. Holding Turing's hand, Merka led Turing towards the exit.

"Sorry, sorry. Sisi is really cute and makes people want to scare her a little."

"Goodbye, little ones." The witch stood in place, waving her hand nonchalantly.

【There's nothing wrong here.】

【Where exactly is it?】

Continuously contemplating the various details seen in the shop, Turing suddenly remembered the witch's peculiar staff, and a spark of inspiration flashed through his mind.

【Besides that staff in her shop, not to mention a smoking pipe, even the ashtray or a speck of ash is nowhere to be found.】

【There's not a single smudge on the wall either. She's not some noble lady with maids to clean up after her, and she seems quite lazy herself...】

【And even as the only smoking pipe, she plans to sell it.】

【Why is she doing this?】

【Doesn't she smoke?】

Following Merka out of the shop, Turing subconsciously looked back.

【Now that I think about it, I forgot to look at the shop name when I entered.】

【The shop name is...】

Though it was a plastic signboard, the black font was assertive and unforgettable.

【{No Smoking Zone}?】
