Under the gloomy atmosphere -
"Ding!", a lift appeared in front of Tende and Bernie.
Do you feel like you've missed several episodes all of a sudden? That's just your illusion.
At most, it's only two episodes.
Through Bernie's perception, the two of them found a hidden door and struggled to crawl through it.
Then they pressed something that could be pressed, and the scene described above appeared.
"Why did you press it randomly?" Bernie asked.
"If I didn't press it, the lift wouldn't appear," Tende justified confidently.
Instead of arguing, they both looked at the lift.
It must be said that the design style of this lift told them that they were in the right place.
The angel's relief and the intertwining bird and beast group exuded a strong "flavor" of the Etemila Church everywhere.
"Do you know what the other spirits are?" Tende curiously asked.
"Why do you ask that?" Bernie didn't want to answer at all.
"Whenever I encounter a follower of Etemila, I feel like Layton City only believes in Etemila," Tende said.
"That's indeed your illusion." After Bernie finished speaking, he walked into the lift first, "Maybe you are scared and afraid to come up."
Bernie suspected that Tende said so many inexplicable words because he was scared and wanted to change the subject.
"Nonsense." Tende followed Bernie into the lift, if he was scared, he wouldn't have pressed randomly.
In a fit of anger, Tende closed the door and pressed the down button.
The lift started with difficulty and slowly descended.
The light became darker as they descended.
Tende lifted his hand and glanced at his watch.
"It's eight o'clock in the evening," he said.
"Yeah..." Bernie nodded. The Vigilant knew what the night meant.
The lift didn't pass through negative one floor, negative two floor, etc., and descended directly to the lowest floor.
"I feel like investigating the Image phenomenon is easier than investigating cases I used to," Tende said.
He used to not have a partner who could smell the "culprit's" location.
"Because of me," Bernie said expressionlessly.
Then the door opened, and a ray of light shone in.
After the door opened, there were no enemies as expected, and everything appeared quiet and peaceful.
There should have been a lot of people or monsters in the huge underground, but now it was eerily quiet.
The unusual quietness made Tende feel that it was not so surprising that there could be a place like this in the underground of the North City.
"It's ashes." Tende noticed that there were ash piles nearby, and these ash piles had burnt-out sacrificial robes on them.
There was not only one ash pile like this, but several scattered around.
Tende and Bernie looked at each other, they knew what had happened here.
The recipients who were supposed to be in this place were all killed.
"Did other members of The Vigilant come?" Tende couldn't help but ask.
Did Sigmund bring other people to solve the recipients' case? But he didn't mention it.
"It's not The Vigilant, it should be the hunters of Anthem Hunter," Bernie obviously knew more about the organization than Tende.
Tende had no knowledge in this regard.
There were marks of a heavy sword slashing on the wall, and Bernie recognized this distinctive sword mark.
The one-handed weapons of The Vigilant generally couldn't cause such damage.
Because the one-handed weapons of The Vigilant relied on "Special Attack" to inflict massive damage on Image phenomena.
The sacred sword of the hunters, on the other hand, was capable of causing extensive damage on its own.
"Your circle is really chaotic," Tende sighed.
"You are also part of this circle now," Bernie replied.
After speaking, they both looked up.
"Ticking-" a drop of saliva fell from the ceiling.
A monsterized recipient grabbed the chandelier and stared at the two below. It seems that the hunter did not completely kill all the monsters here, there are still some fish that escaped the net.
"That hunter's skills are not that great," Tende shook his head.
"You don't need to talk so much nonsense," Bernie was never polite to Tende.
Of course, the monsters were not polite to them either.
It suddenly released its claws, falling straight down, but it abruptly changed its direction in mid-air and pounced towards the two of them.
Surprisingly, the two of them stood together, as if they were waiting to capture it.
"You go for the head, I'll go for the chest," Tende said quietly.
"Click—" The two of them loaded their guns at the same time.
"Boom—" Then, they both fired at the recipient still in mid-air.
The recipient began to burn with a silver flame even before it landed.
The tremendous impact even caused it to show signs of flying back up.
But it didn't matter, it was already dead.
"How did you almost die from a single monster last time?" Tende asked.
"Last time, it was a one-on-one fight," Bernie's mouth twitched.
Tende didn't continue, afraid of hurting Bernie's self-esteem.
Last time, he had a one-on-one fight too, and it seemed like it wasn't a normal recipient.
After killing the recipient with Tende, Bernie didn't rush to leave, but tried to find something.
Sometimes, these things might have other types of Image phenomena, and if they found them, it would be a gain.
Unfortunately, it seemed that this place did not have any Image phenomena of the prop type.
Helplessly, they had to continue moving forward.
The structure of this place was quite complex, with many crisscrossing paths, and the two of them had to fumble their way forward.
Even though Bernie was very sensitive to the monsters' presence, he couldn't pinpoint their exact locations.
"There are manuscripts," Tende squatted down and picked up the scattered manuscripts on the ground.
They should have been bound together, but seeing the burnt deep red robe hanging on the wall, Tende knew that these manuscripts could never be bound together in this lifetime.
Even in a place where monsters could appear at any moment, Tende casually read through the manuscripts.
He still had the ability to read a line with ten lines at a glance, don't underestimate him just because he used to read online novels all the time.
"Keep walking and read at the same time, it's too late now," Tende said, looking at the manuscripts while standing up.
If Tende was a little tired, he wouldn't mind walking while reading.
These manuscripts were quite interesting, like reading a novel.
"..." Bernie looked at Tende strangely, wanting to say something but stopping.
Actually, Bernie wanted Tende to stop reading. They might be in someone else's lair now, and being so calm was not a good idea.
It would be a bit disrespectful not to have some tension in a place like this.
"The Church of the Divine, this looks like the villains," Tende mumbled to himself.
With these seemingly irrelevant manuscripts, he had a vague understanding of the whole situation.
At least now he wouldn't be confused and not know "who is who".
