Epilogue

The fruit knife slipped from her hand and made a crisp sound as it hit the ground.

"Now that it has come to this... do you still hold onto that idea?" Zhiye asked me with a trembling voice. I knew exactly what Zhiye was referring to, but my answer remained unchanged.

"Yes," I replied heavily. I didn't know what consequences my answer would bring. Maybe Zhiye would stab me to death, or maybe Zhiye would finally give up. The probability of the latter was probably much smaller than the former, but I didn't want to hurt her, let alone go against my own heart. Even if I had to be stabbed to death, I accepted it.

When I made this determination, Zhiye put her hand on my cheek. I could feel a warmth spreading from her palm to my face.

"I wanted Jerry to accompany me in death... but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Am I useless? I can't even hold onto Jerry's heart," tears streamed down Zhiye's eyes.

"I'm sorry..." That was probably all I could say, but no matter how many times I said it, it couldn't fill the void of my actions.

"It's okay... it's okay. No matter what Jerry does, my love for you will only increase," Zhiye said with a smile through her tears.

I chose to remain silent. Zhiye's love shouldn't be wasted on me.

"Jerry, if I gave you another chance to choose, would you choose me?" Zhiye asked, taking a few steps back and smiling. And my answer was, "No."

The heart that loves someone won't change, at least I won't betray Su Yuqian.

"It's a pity that I can't be Jerry's one and only. I wanted to marry Jerry and live a happy life. It seems like it's not going to happen," Zhiye forced a smile.

"But we can still be friends..." I wanted to try my best to maintain a harmonious relationship with Zhiye.

"There's no need anymore... because we can't be lovers... there's no need anymore," Zhiye walked towards the railing and looked at the sky.

"Jerry... can I be your bride in the next life?" Zhiye asked me in this way, but I couldn't come up with an answer for a while.

"Goodbye, Jerry..." When I lifted my head, Zhiye had already climbed onto the railing.

"Please remember me well... don't... forget about me," her face was crying but still wore a smile.

"Damn it... how did it come to this," I didn't have time to think and rushed over. Zhiye took a step forward with one foot.

"Zhiye!" I shouted loudly, but Zhiye didn't stop. She let go of the railing with both feet, and her body quickly fell downward. At the critical moment, I lunged forward and grabbed her hand.

"Jerry?" Zhiye looked at me in surprise.

"What are you doing?" I asked angrily.

"Without a world that includes Jerry, there's no meaning in living," Zhiye said with despair.

"You fool, aren't I here perfectly fine? Why would you do something so silly? Why would you joke with your own life?"

"Perhaps this is my best ending..."

"What ending? You should live well... give me your other hand," it was impossible to pull Zhiye up with only one hand, and I felt my hand starting to weaken.

If I didn't hold on tightly, Zhiye could easily fall down. It would be difficult to survive a fall from the sixth floor, so...

"Zhiye..."

"No need... let go," Zhiye showed no intention of cooperating. I felt like I was reaching my limit.

"What nonsense, how could I let go!" I desperately held onto Zhiye's hand, my face turning red and my strength quickly running out.

I tried my best to pull her up, but it was in vain.

"You idiot, fool. You say you like me, love me, but you can't even change my heart. You give up so easily, and now you're ending your life on your own. It's truly pathetic," I said.

"Huh?"

"Come... up... I don't want... you to die, because you're the most important person in my life!"

"Jerry..."

I reached out my other hand and said,

"Hold onto my hand..." I desperately wanted Zhiye to reach out her hand, because I didn't want her to die.

When I saw Zhiye grab onto my hand, I saw hope. But as I tried to pull her up with all my strength, I realized I didn't have enough energy left to lift her.

"Damn it!"

"Jerry, I'm really touched that you said all this to me... but don't waste your strength, let go..."

"It's impossible... absolutely impossible."

I hated myself for being useless at such a crucial moment. Is there anyone who can help me?

Suddenly, there was a loud noise and the iron door flew open. Su Yuqian ran out from inside, holding a hammer in her hand.

"This door is so rotten."

"Yuxi, stop complaining and come help me," I said.

"What's going on?" Su Yuqian had her doubts but still quickly ran over. When she saw Zhiye, who I was holding onto, she reacted quickly and helped me hold onto Zhiye's other hand.

The two of us exerted our strength and lifted Zhiye up.

In the moment of relief, I was panting heavily and feeling weak all over.

"Jerry..."

"Surviving is enough..."

"Okay..."

"Don't cry..."

Zhiye wiped away her tears, but they continued to fall from the corners of her eyes. As I looked at the snowflakes swirling in the sky, I took a deep breath and said to Zhiye, "Merry Christmas."
