Chapter Thirteen: The Ingrate

"Hmph, that Wu Yaoyao thinks she's all that, just because she has a pretty face," a woman's voice sounded, sharp as a harpy, resembling those female villains on prime-time TV dramas who get killed off in the third episode while cruelly mocking the innocent female protagonist.

“Exactly, such an underdeveloped woman. I wonder whether a drone can even land on her.” A third woman chimed in, each of them sounding more vicious than the last.

Hey, hey, Wu Yaoyao. People are speaking ill of your flat chest here. Come out quick. Having heard the girl’s words, I couldn’t help but listen silently from the utility room and inwardly snickered.

Wu Yaoyao, being flat-chested, is very self-conscious about this. If she hears these comments, she might well grab a bow and arrow and chase you down the street crying, utilizing her sharpshooting skills.

"There's no need for such discussions, ladies. After all, I was at fault for unintentionally touching her hand. Her striking me was only to be expected," LinGu said, trying to diffuse the situation. His tone, however, told a different story, hinting at underlying hurt.

But wait a minute...Wu Yaoyao claimed that LinGu had touched her several times, and even grabbed her at one point. On this account, either Wu Yaoyao was lying, or this LinGu was playing the wolf in sheep's clothing.

"So she gets to slap someone just because they accidentally touched her hand?" The first woman who spoke sounded resentful, followed by a cold snort. "Her hands must be invaluable."

"Bah, she's just arrogant. She's just trying to raise her own value through Gu."

That clarified something for me. These three women were the ones who kept staring at us when LinGu and I sat down together. Based on their adoration for LinGu and the way they're now talking about her, it all added up.

"My face is fine, and it doesn't hurt anymore," LinGu's voice was playful with an undertone of trying to mask his hurt.

"We need to teach this haughty woman a lesson and make her hold back."

"Yeah."

"Absolutely right."

Those were the comments from the malicious women. Their tones were filled with bitterness.

"Please, don’t confront her on my behalf," LinGu said with determination.

"But..."

"Let's just let it pass as my fault.”

….

"Hey, morning has come."

Once I’d finished tidying up the storeroom and had put away all the items, I walked towards the corner where I'd been sitting. Wu Yaoyao was sleeping there with her eyes tightly shut. She had probably just worn herself out. Managing a major club like the Kyudo Club, and ensuring everything was in place for a single event was too much work for a club president.

I called out to her, but received no response. As she was sleeping deeply, she didn't move at all.

Such an overworked state! I sighed, ready to shake her awake. As I was about to reach out, I noticed a flicker in her eyes.

She was feigning sleep.

I pulled my hand back, turned away from Wu Yaoyao, and deliberately spoke a bit louder, "Well, she'll wake up in time anyhow. I'd better get going."

"BaiQiao, stop right there!"

As expected, as soon as I finished speaking, I heard a crisp voice behind me.

"Hmm? Weren’t you sleeping?" I pretended to be oblivious and asked.

"You...you have no understanding of a young girl's heart!" Wu Yaoyao, caught pretending to be asleep, looked at me, blushing and stammering.

"How am I ignorant about a young girl's heart now?" I looked at her, both annoyed and amused. How was it that the one pretending to be asleep was the one to complain first?

"Upon seeing a sweetly sleeping girl, should you not gently pick her up and take her home?" Wu Yaoyao looked at me disapprovingly.

"Which teen magazine did you get this scenario from?" I asked with a wry smile.

Did she read too many of these books to prepare for a confession?

"Dumb, so dumb...I won't sign the form," Wu Yaoyao decided.

Being exposed to reading teen magazines, Wu Yaoyao blushed, fumbled for words, awkwardly shifted her gaze, and attempted to pressure me by not signing the approval form for the event.I couldn't help but utter a bitter laugh. When girls throw tantrums, they really make no sense.

If she doesn't sign, then it would mean that I have not performed my supervisory role today, which would be a complete dereliction of my duty.

Ultimately, after much cajoling, I finally succeeded in making Wu Yaoyao happy. Only then did she, pouting and reluctantly eyeing me, lightly sketched a few strokes on the form.

I returned the form to the Student Union, putting it on Tang Xin's table for her review the next day. The day was already late, and everyone at the Student Union had already gone home.

The sunset painted the entire campus in a layer of orange.

"Let's go," Wu Yaoyao, who had followed me, stood at the door of the Student Union office, waiting for me to close the door.

"Mm-hmm," I nodded, heading towards the school gate.

"Water." Wu Yaoyao caught up to my steps, pulling a bottle of mineral water out of her bag and placing it in front of me.

"Thank you." I took the water and uncapped it for a sip.

There was hardly anyone on the school path; it should be safe for two people to walk this close under the current circumstances.

"Did you start to fancy me today?" Wu Yaoyao, blushing, spoke up as we arrived at the three-way intersection at the gate of the school.

"No." I pursed my lips.

"Then remember to try to like me tomorrow, okay?" Wu Yaoyao revealed her incisors, laughed, waved, and walked down the road heading north.

I gave a wry smile and waved.

I lived in the south of the city, and Wu Yaoyao lived in the north, so we weren't going the same way.

Did I mention this to LinGu today?

On the way home, I suddenly thought of LinGu. However, I was surprised that such a good-looking guy could be a silent pervert. Moreover, the three girls had complete faith in his lies, which really proves that being handsome has its advantages.

Although LinGu was deceiving the three girls, he seemed to feel a bit guilty and at least prevented those girls from causing trouble for Wu Yaoyao.

Another day went by without any trouble. I glanced at the setting sun and stretched lazily.

Wait.

Noticing something amiss, I abruptly halted, turned around, and ran towards where Wu Yaoyao had gone.
