"Stinky kid, I can sense the demonic aura on you. You must not be an ordinary person, right?" Kane's aggressive attitude was extremely annoying, his actions resembling a mad dog sniffing the scent on White Goodson, making him nauseous.
Exorcists usually hide their demonic aura, which refers to the energy of magic power and is one of the means for Exorcists to conceal their identity. White Goodson had always wanted to pass himself off as an ordinary person, but unfortunately his immense magical power couldn't be completely hidden, always revealing a bit of it. As a result, he was always mistaken by unaware Exorcists as an inexperienced newbie. As for why Kobayashi didn't notice his demonic aura earlier, that was because Kobayashi was also an inexperienced newbie.
However, the two people in front of White Goodson not only showed no intention of concealing their demonic aura, but instead emitted increasingly powerful energy fields, displaying their arrogant attitudes. Their behavior was a warning to White Goodson: hand over what belongs to us quickly, or face the consequences.
"Hey guys, can't we sit down and talk calmly?" According to White Goodson's judgment, these two guys were definitely not good news. It was very likely that they had targeted something on the dragon Dulu. When it came to what was most attractive on a dragon, businessmen would first think of the pair of dragon horns, which could fetch a considerable sum of money.
Seeing these two individuals dressed in high-end leather with many expensive diamond gold chains embedded on them, White Goodson knew they were after good fortune. In order to figure out their true intentions and confirm whether Dulu the dragon was innocent, White Goodson decided to delay the two men for now.
"Hahaha, I know what you're thinking, kid. You want to play the 'what's yours is mine' game? Well, let me tell you, there's no way that horn belongs to anyone but me, Kane!" Kane laughed maniacally, then realizing something wasn't quite right, he patted the shoulder of his companion Nubi and added, "and my good brother Nubi here!"
"Is it necessary to eliminate her as a demon?" White Goodson asked. He could feel the power emanating from behind him. When the dragon Dulu appeared with these two men, she had already transformed back into a humanoid form and clung tightly to White Goodson's arm. And now, she was trembling like a prisoner awaiting judgment. White Goodson had become her last redeemer.
Guilty or innocent, it determined her life or death.
"Kid, she's a heinous dragon. Didn't she just try to attack you earlier? How terrifying that dragon roar was! Fortunately, we heard it and came to save you in time. Otherwise, you would have been dead," Kane said, pointing his sword at the shivering girl, "She's trying to make you sympathize with her, kid. Don't be fooled by her pitiful appearance!"
White Goodson was now bare-chested and could clearly feel the girl pressing against his back. When she transformed earlier, she hadn't torn through his shirt and it was still on her. But relying solely on this layer of fabric couldn't prevent the impact brought by those two masses, as she tightly wrapped her arms around White Goodson and pressed her face against his back, trembling uncontrollably.
"Oh, how do you prove that she's your prey?" White Goodson sensed strong contradiction and urgency from Kane's words. If this dragon had just tried to kill White Goodson, why would she seek his protection now? If they had come to save White Goodson, why hadn't they taken any action yet?
"She bears my lord Kane's cross star mark on her face!" Kane said, hugging his arm and humming, like a hunter who proudly leaves marks on his prey. Some Exorcists indeed had this habit of leaving their own marks on the demonic creatures they hunted, seemingly boasting about their achievements to others.
"Cross star mark?" White Goodson glanced at Dulu and noticed a scar in the shape of a cross star under her left eye. Though the bleeding had stopped, the scar had permanently marked the girl's face.
-This is really going too far.
"Lord Kane is ranked twenty-fifth on the Demonic Hunter Hero Board and holds the title of 'Cross Star Swordsman,' an A-level Exorcist. Didn't you know that?" Nubi took the opportunity to boast a bit about Kane. And Kane, not being modest at all, proudly nodded, his face showing off a "I'm so awesome" expression."My good brother is also ranked thirtieth, an A-level Exorcist known as the 'Mountain Splitter'. We are both Offence attackers, and hunting down these evil monsters is our duty. Kid, I suggest you stay out of our way. It would be best for you not to entertain any thoughts of stealing our prey, or else I will make sure you suffer a bit." Kane retorted back at Newbie, and also indirectly threatened White Goodson.
"So, you are an A-level Exorcist, impressive, impressive." White Goodson finally understood why these two were so arrogant. A-level Exorcists were extremely powerful beings, and they indeed had the confidence to act so arrogantly. However, they seemed to have no awareness of who they were facing right now.
Who is White Goodson? He is the man standing at the top of the Exorcist Hero List, White Amaterasu!
"Afraid, aren't you? Then why don't you get lost!" Kane was irritated by White Goodson's nonchalant attitude. He concluded that White Goodson was definitely a rookie among rookies who had no idea about the hierarchical differentiation in the exorcist world.
"But, I don't think she's a monster that needs to be eliminated." White Goodson pretended to be ignorant. He was waiting for an opportunity, one that would allow him to legitimately get rid of these two men.
"You brat, didn't you hear me telling you to get lost? Don't you, a rookie, dare to obstruct our work! I don't care if this dragon is good or bad, I just have my eyes on those horns. Do you want to fight for them?" Kane's impatience grew as he exposed his ugly nature.
There is an unwritten rule in the exorcist world: "Harming others means being a demon."
"Human" doesn't only refer to humans, and "demon" doesn't only refer to monsters.
Kane and Newbie belong to the "Offence" category of exorcists, specifically tasked with exterminating evil monsters that slaughter humans.
However, if an Exorcist harbors ill intentions and persecutes innocent and kind monsters for their own selfish desires, other Exorcists have the right to eliminate them. This kind of Exorcist is called an "Exorcist Hunter" and belongs to the "Reaper" category of exorcists.
Each Exorcist is assigned a different category based on their abilities, and there are a total of five categories:
1. Offence: Responsible for eliminating monsters and engaging them in direct combat.
2. Reaper: Responsible for eradicating problematic Exorcists.
3. Searcher: Responsible for searching for all Exorcists with demonic energy.
4. Cleaner: Responsible for properly handling post-battle issues.
5. Supporter: Responsible for providing support to other Exorcists.
"Before confirming whether a monster is good or evil, it is not allowed to kill. Don't you guys even know this rule?" White Goodson scolded with his hands on his waist, appearing like a fearless righteous student. He was considering whether he should play the role of a Reaper.
"Do you even know who you're talking to? I'm an A-level Exorcist! What are you? If you're so capable, reveal your name. I bet you don't even know who you're going to kill later!" Kane couldn't stand this "loser" anymore. He drew his sword and walked towards White Goodson, and Newbie seemed eager as well, ready to jump and strike White Goodson at any moment.
What White Goodson despised the most in his life were people who violated game rules. He treated the demon-hunting world of the parallel universe as a game, and the phrase "Harming others means being a demon" was the core rule of the game that no one could violate. Obviously, Kane and Newbie had already violated this rule, wanting to harm an innocent monster. White Goodson could not allow such a thing to happen.
Lightly breaking free from Dulu's embrace, White Goodson drew his butterfly knives and slowly walked towards Kane's long sword.
"You're asking for death!" Kane charged forward with his sword, his movements incredibly swift, living up to his twenty-fifth position. The sword's aura, shaped like a cross, aimed straight at White Goodson. Seeing that White Goodson was defenseless and about to be hit by the sword aura, a smirk involuntarily appeared on Kane's mouth. But his smile quickly froze, then turned into an expression of disbelief.White Goodson lightly swung his butterfly knife, shattering the oncoming sword energy. Invisible attacks were much more terrifying than visible techniques. Before Kane could even process his surprise, a long gash appeared on his neck. Blood gushed out, and Kane didn't even know what had happened before he knelt down on both knees and fell to the ground lifeless.
Kane had no idea what had happened. The Cross Slash was his proudest skill, but against White Goodson and his ability to dispel magic, it was instantly rendered useless.
"What... who are you!?" From Nubi's perspective, Kane had died after just using the Cross Slash. White Goodson seemed to kill him in the same instant as his attack. Nubi couldn't accept this. Kane was ranked 25th among A-ranked Exorcists, just five spots away from reaching S-rank. How could he be easily killed by this seemingly weak nobody?
"You... you can't kill me! Only Reapers can do that. What you're doing is against the rules!" Nubi immediately began retreating, unable to hold his sword steadily. He gave up on attacking and gathered all of his magic to form a defensive barrier around himself.
"Heh, it seems like you all know the rules but still choose to break them. But sorry to disappoint you, I'm actually following the rules quite well." White Goodson instantly appeared in front of Nubi, effortlessly breaking through the defensive barrier and thrusting his butterfly knife into his chest.
After whispering something in Nubi's ear, his eyes widened, as if he had seen something even scarier than the Grim Reaper.
"My rank... is 'ALL.'" Beyond the five major ranks, there existed a separate rank called 'ALL' – someone who could use the abilities of all the other ranks. In the entire exorcism world, only the strongest of Exorcists could achieve this 'ALL' rank.
"It looks like this has gotten a bit out of hand... I just wanted a peaceful life." White Goodson looked at the two corpses with some regret, running his fingers through his hair.
When White Goodson killed these two individuals, his desire for a normal life slowly began to crumble. He went from a state of seclusion to a full-fledged Exorcist once again.
Suddenly, White Goodson felt an impact from behind as Dulu tightly embraced him and cried out. It wasn't a cry of sadness or pain, but a comforting one, at least that's how White Goodson perceived it.
"It seems like you have nowhere else to go. If you don't mind... come home with me?" White Goodson gently stroked the head of the young girl who appeared to be seventeen but felt like a child.
As the two left the back mountain, heading towards the town, Dulu seemed to remember something and ran back towards the big tree. Just as White Goodson started to wonder, Dulu returned from under the tree, holding a piece of wood in her hand.
As they were leaving, a mysterious figure wearing a black robe emerged from the shadows. They dragged Kane and Nubi's bodies into the void and watched as White Goodson walked away, saying, "An Exorcist who wants to live with monsters? How interesting, hehe."
